Sabres Classics: First game in Manhattan after 9/11
New episode of 'Beyond Blue and Gold' ties into Thursday's MSG re-broadcast of 2001 game against Rangers
by Chris Ryndak @ChrisRyndak / Sabres.com
It had been 27 days since the world changed. Terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 shook the nation and while the wounds were still fresh, a sense of normalcy finally began to creep back into everyone's lives.
In Manhattan, at the heart of the recovery, a hockey game played on October 7 helped with some of that healing. The Buffalo Sabres were set to play the Rangers in New York's home opener. It would be the first game of significance played on the island since the attacks.
In a sign of solidarity, the Sabres wore jerseys with a "New York" script across the front. Both teams' jerseys were then auctioned off, raising $215,000 for the Twin Towers Fund.
"There was only one team on the ice," Sabres play-by-play announcer Rick Jeanneret said. "The two teams were out there, but there was just one."

The two-part documentary sees former enforcers Rob Ray and Tie Domi sit down with Sabres alumnus Andrew Peters to watch all 13 of their NHL fights against each other.

With the Buffalo Sabres set to play the Toronto Maple Leafs in a home-and-home series this weekend, there isn't a better time to premiere "Beyond Blue and Gold: Ray v. Domi."
The two-part documentary will air Saturday night on MSG during the intermissions of the Sabres' road game against Toronto. Faceoff is at 7 p.m. with pregame coverage starting at 6:30.

What you need to know this week
by Jourdon LaBarber @jourdonlabarber / Sabres.com
With only so much time left before we turn our collective attention toward the inside of a hockey rink, it's important to enjoy summer activities while you can - whether it's a backyard barbeque, a long walk along the beach, or even catching a baseball game on a weekend afternoon.
Way Beyond Blue and Gold: There's more story to tell
by Michelle Girardi Zumwalt @chellegz / Sabres.com
We should do a BBG for the 10th anniversary of the Ottawa Brawl.
When it was first suggested, I hesitated, wondering if we could possibly do such a memorable moment justice in the few short weeks of production time dedicated to a typical episode of Beyond Blue and Gold.

First and foremost, a huge thank you to all who have gone out of their way to mention to us how much they enjoyed the original "Maturation of Marcus" episode.
To say we were well-looked after for a couple of sunny summer days in Sudbury, Ontario would be an understatement.
