The Series So Far...

  • Game 1: Jaccob Slavin came up clutch in overtime to help the Canes open up the series on the right foot.
  • Game 2: Carolina struck late but couldn't complete the comeback in a 3-1 loss at Capital One Arena.

No Place Like Our Place...

  • The Canes went 31-9-1 at Lenovo Center during the regular season - tied for the most home wins in the NHL - and started the postseason 3-0 there as well. It was one of the best campaigns in franchise history, and now Rod Brind'Amour and staff will have the advantage of getting the matchups they want.
  • Through three home games in the playoffs, six Canes skaters have posted at least three points. Sebastian Aho leads the way with four.

In Net...

  • Frederik Andersen allowed just two goals in Game 2, his fifth appearance of the postseason in which he has allowed two goals or fewer.
  • At the time of publishing, Andersen leads all qualifying goalies in GAA (1.55) and sits second in save percentage (.945) during the playoffs, and he is the only second-round starter (min. 5 games played) to have given up fewer than 10 goals to date.
  • Considering that he has deployed Andersen whenever he's been available during this postseason, it seems likely that Rod Brind'Amour continues to stick with the hot hand between the pipes.

On The Other Side...

  • After being disappointed with their Game 1 performance, the Capitals came out with a much better effort in Game 2.
  • Blocking 32 and 33 shots, respectively, to start the series, Washington has done an admirable job of helping out their backstop, Logan Thompson.
  • The Capitals were one of the best road teams during the regular season, finishing with 25 wins away from Capital One Arena, tied for the second most among all NHL teams.

Injury Updates

  • Forward Jesper Fast was ruled out for the 2024-25 season in August after having neck surgery.
  • Forward Mark Jankowski left Game 1 in the second period and has not yet returned to action. After being labeled a game-time decision for Game 2, Jankowski practiced with a small group on Friday and could be available for Game 3.
    • "He's practicing, so I'll probably know tomorrow if he's able to go," said Brind'Amour on Friday. "I'm hopeful that he's an option. I know he's close."

What Are We Wearing?

  • The Canes will wear their black uniforms at home throughout the postseason.

What's Next After This Game?

  • The Canes are scheduled to practice on Sunday before returning to action in Game 4 at Lenovo Center on Monday.
  • Next Game: Monday, May 12 | Round 2, Game 4 vs. Washington | 7:00 p.m. ET | Tickets | Parking
