The Series So Far...

  • Game 1: Logan Stankoven scored twice and Frederik Andersen made 23 saves as the Canes thumped the Devils, 4-1, at Lenovo Center.

Stankoven Shines...

  • Logan Stankoven's two tallies in Game 1 marked his second career multi-goal playoff game. The rookie became the second player in franchise history to score twice in his first postseason appearance with the club, joining Andrei Svechnikov (2019).
  • Despite maintaining his first-year skater status, Stankoven already has a playoff run under his belt, posting eight points in 19 games with the Dallas Stars in 2023-24, and is only the 23rd rookie in NHL history with multiple multi-goal playoff performances.

Mr. Consistency...

  • Jaccob Slavin is set to pass Rod Brind'Amour for the third-most playoff games played in franchise history this evening as he laces up for his 73rd career postseason contest.
  • Tying Brind'Amour's mark in Game 1, Slavin logged an assist to become the franchise's second player with 30 helpers in his playoff career, joining Sebastian Aho (43).
  • Slavin leads all franchise defensemen with 37 career playoff points and ranks 10th among all NHL blueliners in both assists and points in the playoffs since 2018-19.

In Net...

  • Frederik Andersen was stellar in net on Sunday, turning aside 23 of 24 shots for the Game 1 win.
  • It's unclear at this point how Rod Brind'Amour plans to rotate his goalies, if at all. After sticking to an every-other-game system for Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov when both were available during the regular season, the Canes head coach was publicly noncommittal about his plans on Monday despite being "pretty sure" what he is going to do.
  • Should Andersen get the nod, it would be his first consecutive starts since the 2023-24 playoffs. Conversely, Kochetkov would be making just his third career postseason start (sixth appearance).

On The Other Side...

  • New Jersey came out of Game 1 a little banged up after three players went down during the course of action. Luke Hughes eventually returned to play and Brenden Dillon's absence was "precautionary," per Devils Head Coach Sheldon Keefe, but there was no update on Cody Glass, who was felled by his own goaltender during a netfront scrum.
  • Nico Hischier potted the Devils' only goal on Sunday, rifling a wrister off the rush late in the second period. New Jersey's captain ranked third on the team in scoring during the regular season with 69 points in 75 games.
  • Jacob Markstrom is expected in the New Jersey net once again after turning aside 41 of 44 shots in Game 1.
