, but then post-game during Rod Brind'Amour's speech you can hear a couple of guys address him as "Goose".
I was hoping to ask around the locker room today actually about this, but since the guys aren't taking to the ice, I'm going to have to investigate on Wednesday!
Is there a chance they keep Ghost and go after him this offseason with an offer? - @JRsportsfan83
It's too soon to tell, but if he keeps up this pace, I think the answer would be a definitive "yes."
(Gostisbehere is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.)
I keep hearing 'family' referenced in interviews and Rod's post-game videos. Seeing the team's kiddos involved with Kid's Day, Burnzie on the bench watching his son play, and the Storm Surge yesterday drove that home. That said, can you highlight some quotes about team chemistry? - @hatfieldvmccoy
Great observation, Erin.
Ever since the team's
Fathers and Mentors Trip in mid-February
, "family" has been a buzz-word around the team. Most of the players had a strong support group at the outdoor game and yesterday's Kids Day Storm Surge is one of the best of all time. With that being said, here are some quotes on the topic that have stood out to me over the last few weeks.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi, last night, post-game, on the team not making a "splash" trade at the deadline...
"There's a reason why we're at the top of the standings right now. We have a hell of a group. A couple of nice additions that I think will be really good too. Everyone trusts each other here and I feel like that's the biggest thing. If you add too many guys [at the deadline] I feel like it might change the locker room a little bit. I like what we have here now."
Don Waddell on the current chemistry of the locker room making an impact on the Canes' stance at the deadline...
"I met with some of the leaders on our team before they left town [prior to the Vegas/Arizona trip]. We have something good with this bunch of guys, led by Rod. They believe in each other. This group is very close. There was concern that we maybe had to lose someone off of our roster."
Newcomer Shayne Gostisbehere's first impressions on coming into the locker room...
"It's a very close-knit group. They've pulled me in and made me feel a part of this. It's made it easier to go out there and play. Everyone's helping me... It's been awesome. These guys have made me feel at home and they've been really helpful to me."
"Coming from a team that's at the bottom of the standings to a team that's one of the best in the league, it's pretty cool to see how their culture is and how they run the ship."
