6.12.23 Hats

RALEIGH, NC. -The Carolina Hurricanes had just one hat trick by a player in both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.

This past campaign? A new franchise record of eight, which finished tied with the Buffalo Sabres for the most by an NHL team.

Throw The Hats!

Starting back in just the team's fourth game of the campaign in Edmonton, Andrei Svechnikov continued his torrid start to the year with his first NHL regular season hat trick against the Oilers.

Just 15 days later, Sebastian Aho posted his first of what would be three hat tricks on the season. Who could forget the A-HO bob at PNC Arena?

Six days following Aho's fifth career three-piece, Svechnikov victimized the Oilers again, joining Sami Kapanen (1997-98) as just the second player in franchise history to record two hat tricks versus the same team in a single season.

Jordan Martinook then started December on a high note (pun intended) while taking on the Blues, putting home three for just the second time in his nine-year NHL career.

It took 51 days for the club to find their next hat trick, coming in the form of Aho against the Islanders on January 21, but the next was perhaps the most special of the season. Seth Jarvis' first career three-goal game came on Cam Ward's Hall of Fame Night, putting the cherry on top of what was a 6-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.

Teuvo Teravainen joined the fun on March 5 against the Tampa Bay Lightning and then Aho chimed back in once more, closing the book on the eight-hat trick campaign in Philadelphia, which included an incredible individual effort in overtime to earn the win.
