The sixth annual Canes 5k presented by UNC REX Healthcare and assisted by Raleigh Orthopaedic will take place at PNC Arena on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 9:30 a.m., and all proceeds will benefit the Kids 'N Community Foundation. The event will include a 5k race around PNC Arena and surrounding areas, 100- and 200-yard kids' dashes, inflatables, and appearances by Stormy and the Pepsi Storm Squad. Carolina Hurricanes players, staff and alumni are also scheduled to participate. Race registration includes a ticket voucher for an upper-level seat to a pre-selected 2018-19 Hurricanes home game, a commemorative t-shirt, a customized bib, a chance to win raffle prizes and a post-race breakfast. The Kids 'N Community Golf Tournament presented by BlueLine Associates will take place at Prestonwood Country Club on Monday, Sept. 10, with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. Carolina Hurricanes players, coaches, broadcasters and management will join each participating foursome. Each golfer will receive an exclusive player gift bag filled with Hurricanes gear. Lunch will be served on-course with snacks and beverages available throughout the day. Following the tournament, golfers will enjoy a dinner reception where prizes will be awarded to the tournament's top teams and individual-hole contest winners. The Kids 'N Community Foundation provides funding to children's nonprofits with a health or education focus throughout North Carolina. Since the Foundation's inception in 1997, more than $14.5 million has been donated through cash grants and in-kind support to youth-serving organizations.
