2.16.16 Nadeau

RALEIGH, N.C. - While the NHL season is paused for the Olympic Winter Games in Italy, Carolina Hurricanes prospects throughout hockey's various levels continue to push toward playoffs and other season-ending tournaments.

Here are some things you should know about the future of the organization:

AHL

  • Building off a record-setting rookie year in 2024-25, Bradly Nadeau continues to grow his game. After becoming just the fifth teenager in the history of the league to eclipse the 30-goal mark last year, the now 20-year-old is on pace to eclipse that mark this season. Already with 20 tallies this season and 26 games to go, perhaps the most impressive development in Nadeau's game this year is that, on top of his goal-scoring, he's been tasked with a heightened defensive responsibility as well. Defending leads late and serving as a key player on the penalty kill, his +25 is an eye-popping contrast to his -20 from last year.
  • Nadeau was a standout performer at this month's AHL All-Star Game, where he represented the Wolves with Domenick Fensore and Justin Robidas. Fensore ranks inside the top 10 in scoring by all AHL defensemen with 28 points, and Robidas, like Nadeau, is one of just eight players in the league to hit both 20 goals and 20 assists.
  • Not to be lost in the mix, Felix Unger Sorum has also taken a massive leap forward in his second year in the league. With 19 points in his last 15 games, including a pair of overtime winners, the 2023 second-round pick has displayed more confidence and maturity en route to helping the Wolves to second place in the Central Division standings.

NCAA

  • When it comes to NCAA freshmen, Justin Poirier is still one of the best. Showing the same goal-scoring prowess in the new world of college hockey that he displayed in the QMJHL, his .67 goals-per-game lead all first-year players, and his 18 goals sit tied for eighth in all of college hockey.
  • At Michigan, Jayden Perron has played a big role in keeping his group the second-ranked team in the nation. With 31 points in 30 games, the 2023 third-round pick has been held off the score sheet just one time in 2026, providing the Wolverines with 13 points in their last 10 outings.
  • On an unfortunate note, Charlie Cerrato's stellar regular season at Penn State is done. One of the most electric players in all of college hockey to start the year, the sophomore had 24 points in 19 games before an injury relegated him to the press box.

QMJHL & Europe...

  • Last month, 18-year-old Ivan Ryabkin was reassigned from Chicago (AHL) to Charlottetown of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. After competing against grown men for the first half of the season, his move to juniors has been dominant. Winning Player of the Week honors in his first week with the club, the 2025 second-round pick has 17 points in his first nine games with the club, including a pair of power-play goals and a pair of game-winners already.
  • We've focused a lot on point-producers, but as Jaccob Slavin reminds us, being elite is not always about production. In light of that, Alexander Siryatsky's play this season certainly deserves a shout-out. When healthy, the 19-year-old has played in 27 games with Metallurg Magnitogorsk, showcasing steady defensive abilities against players often much older than him.
