RALEIGH, NC - The Carolina Hurricanes today announced that the
Carolina Hurricanes Foundation
has donated a total of $450,000 in cash grants to 25 local nonprofits and youth hockey organizations in North Carolina throughout the 2018-19 season. This grant cycle brings the Foundation and team's donation totals to more than $15 million in cash grants and in-kind services since 1997. The Foundation will celebrate its 2018-19 grant cycle recipients at the Hurricanes' game on Thursday at PNC Arena against the Washington Capitals.

GOAL (Growing Opportunities and Leaders) Grants are distributed in $50,000 increments for a total of $150,000 over three years to four organizations. The Green Chair project is in their first year of funding, Families Moving Forward is in their second year of funding, and both Read and Feed and StepUp Ministry are in their third and final year of funding
The Foundation issued 13 Game Changer Grants during their grant cycle, totaling $150,000. The Game Changer Grant recipients are: Durham Arts Council, Flashes of Hope, Museum of Life and Science and Youth Thrive at the $5,000 level; Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Chatham Education Foundation and Frankie Lemmon School & Developmental Center at the $10,000 level; Diaper Bank of NC, Kesem, Marbles Kids Museum and Note in the Pocket at the $15,000 level; Miracle League of the Triangle at the $30,000 level.
Future Canes Grants, awarded to eight youth hockey organizations, totaled $100,000. Future Canes Grants are provided to grow the sport of hockey throughout North Carolina, and the funds go towards scholarships and program costs to ensure that children who are otherwise unable to play ice hockey for various reasons are given the opportunity to play. The Future Canes Grant recipients are: Cape Fear Youth Hockey Association, Coastal Carolina Hockey Association, Greensboro Youth Hockey Association, Raleigh Youth Hockey Association, Triad Hockey Alliance, Triangle Special Hockey Association, Triangle Youth Hockey of North Carolina and Winston-Salem Youth Hockey Association.
All 25 organizations will be recognized during Thursday's game and will be in attendance for an on-ice check presentation during the second intermission. Individuals from the recipient organizations will be siren sounders and Olympia riders throughout the evening. Carolina Hurricanes corporate partners with season-long campaigns will have their donations recognized with check presentations in game. These partners include the Carolina Ale House for their Points for Kids and Hearts for the Hurricanes campaign, and KIOTI Tractor for the Assist for Hunger program.
