RALEIGH, NC - The National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes will host their inaugural Prescription Drug Take Back Night on Friday, Feb. 15, when the team welcomes the Edmonton Oilers to PNC Arena at 7:30 p.m. The Hurricanes are hosting Prescription Drug Take Back Night to help fans properly and safely dispose of expired or unused medicine.

"Opioid addition and prescription drug abuse is a growing problem in North Carolina and the Hurricanes are committed to helping local law enforcement create a healthier community," said Hurricanes President and General Manager Don Waddell. "We hope fans will join us in the fight against addiction by safely disposing their extra prescription drugs on Friday."
The Hurricanes will partner with the North Carolina Department of Justice, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the SBI, the Raleigh Police Department and the Wake County Sheriff's Office on Prescription Drug Take Back Night. Drop-offs will be located at the South, East, West and VIP entrance of PNC Arena. "Many of us have unneeded prescription drugs sitting in our medicine cabinets where they can get into the wrong hands," said North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein. "Approximately five North Carolinians die each day from an opioid overdose and many, many more are in the grips of addiction. Prescription drugs are closely linked to this crisis - and we must all do everything we can to confront it. The Hurricanes are doing a great public service by partnering with law enforcement to help people safely dispose of their dangerous and addictive drugs."
In a separate partnership, 7,500 postcards will be handed out to fans upon entry to the arena, courtesy of DisposeRx. Headquartered in Sanford, N.C., DisposeRx will also have an interactive concourse setup outside of Section 110 to further educate fans on safe disposal of prescriptions at home.
