A three-game trip through eastern Canada concludes tonight for the Nashville Predators, as they face the Ottawa Senators for a 6 p.m. CT puck from Canadian Tire Centre. This evening’s contest is the first of two meetings between the Preds and Sens this season; Nashville will host Ottawa at the end of November at Bridgestone Arena.

After a 5-4 overtime loss in Toronto on Tuesday to begin the trip, the Predators scored five unanswered goals on Thursday night in Montreal to defeat the Canadiens by a 5-2 final.

While the Preds were pleased with the final result, they also say there is plenty of room for improvement. Now, they’ll look to finish off the trip with five out of a possible six points against an Ottawa team that has won three of their four outings this season, including a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia on Thursday.

“We want to get off to a better start, getting more into our game,” Preds center Ryan O’Reilly said Thursday night of facing the Senators. "I think we just got caught on our heels a bit [in Montreal]… We just have to be on our toes, kind of just overthinking everything. We have got to engage right away, build our game out from there, and I think we'll be in a much better position.”

“They're not always always going to be pretty, really proud the guys stuck together,” Preds Head Coach Andrew Brunette said following Thursday’s win. “We had really good energy on the bench, even when things weren't looking good. We have great leadership that grabbed it when they had to grab it.”

Preds forward Mavrik Bourque and defenseman William Trudeau both left Thursday’s game with upper-body injuries and did not return. On Friday, the team announced Trudeau has been placed on Injured Reserve and is week-to-week with his upper-body injury.

The Predators did not practice Friday as they traveled to Ottawa, but they are expected to hold a morning skate ahead of tonight’s game.

On Friday night, the Preds acquired defenseman Jayden Struble from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Vegas’ second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

“Jayden Struble is a 25-year-old physical defender who will add mobility and a hard-to-play against quality that will help our backend,” Preds President of Hockey Operations/General Manager Chris MacFarland said. “We are excited to watch his growth and look forward to him being a player who can grow with us.”

Last Time Out:

Alex Kerfoot, Matthew Wood and Ryan O’Reilly scored for the Predators - with the latter two coming on the power play - after the Canadiens had taken a 2-0 lead in the second period. Adam Edström then scored a pair of goals into an empty net, and Juuse Saros made 32 saves in net for Nashville to give them their first road win of the season. Kerfoot’s and Edstrom’s goals were their first tallies with their new team.

Steven Stamkos leads the Preds with six points (3g-3a) on the season, followed by Roman Josi (1g-4a) with five points. Filip Forsberg has four assists, and Saros has played all four games in net for Nashville with goaltender Justus Annunen remaining on Injured Reserve.

All-Time Meetings:

The Preds are 21-13-(0)-5 all-time against the Senators, including a 9-7-(0)-4 mark in Ottawa. Nashville is 6-3-1 in the last 10 meetings versus Ottawa and 3-1-1 in the last five at Canadian Tire Centre.

Roman Josi passed David Legwand (956) for most games played in Preds franchise history on Feb. 3, 2025 vs. Ottawa. Josi also played his 1,000th career NHL game on Jan. 22, 2026 vs. the Senators.

Nashville Notables:

With an assist on Matthew Wood’s goal Thursday night, in his 1,250th career game, Stamkos extended his season-opening point streak to four games. He became the fifth Nashville skater in the past decade with a streak of that length alongside Filip Forsberg (6 GP in 2019-20), Ryan Johansen (5 GP in 2019-20), Matt Duchene (5 GP in 2019-20) and Erik Haula (4 GP in 2025-26).

Roman Josi picked up a helper on the go ahead tally from O’Reilly, and became the third defenseman in franchise history with a season-opening point streak of at least four games. The others: Marek Zidlicky (6 GP in 2003-04) and Dan Hamhuis (5 GP in 2007-08).

It was Josi’s 117th career multi-assist games ranking sixth among defensemen born outside North America. He trails Nicklas Lidstrom (176), Erik Karlsson (152), Borje Salming (123), Victor Hedman (120) and Sergei Zubov (118).

Ross Colton and Jack Drury each picked up an assist for their first points since joining the Predators.

The Predators power play ranks tied for fourth in the NHL, operating at 38.5 percent (5-for-13).
