6.13.23 Individual Performances

RALEIGH, NC. -After looking back on the Fathers and Mentors Trip earlier this week, today we'll reflect on some of the best individual performances of the season. (Editor's Note: hat tricks will get their own due later this week.)

Some will be from single games, some will be stretches of time, and some will be statistics from the entire season.

Let's look back on some of the great moments.

The Best of Times

Before we begin, a brief reminder that these are subjective, and some may have fond memories from periods of the season that we weren't able to include below. However, here are some efforts that are not to be forgotten.

Necas Finishes Tied For The League Lead In Overtime Winners

After a disappointing 2021-22 campaign, Martin Necas responded with a career year in every major statistical category.

Leading the team with 71 points, #88 also owned three-on-three play, finishing with a share of the most OT goals in the league. Sitting alongside David Pastrnak, Necas provided several moments throughout the season, including in extra time, where he reignited the hope that his career is back on track and his production will match what was hoped from him when he was selected in the first round in 2017.

Remember when he became the first player in franchise history to score an overtime goal in back-to-back games, leading the Canes by the Stars and Sharks in the span of three days? Crazy.

Aho's Team-Record Six-Game Goal Streak

From January 21 - February 1, Sebastian Aho was a goal-scoring machine.

Finding the back of the net in six consecutive games, including a hat trick and an overtime winner, #20 went into the All-Star break scorching.

It was the second time in his career that he'd posted a run of that length, matching the team record he had already established in 2020. Only Pierre Larouche (9; 1981-82) and Ray Ferraro (7; 1988-89) have scored in more consecutive games.

LAK@CAR: Aho nets goal on the power play in OT

On a separate note, Aho also recorded his 20th playoff goal in New York, becoming the franchise's new leader in that category, passing Eric Staal.

Kochetkov's Back-to-Back Shutouts

Pyotr Kochetkov's first full season in North America was a successful one, including being rewarded with a four-year extension during just the second month of the campaign.

A likely selling point for putting the pen to the paper was the two consecutive perfect performances from the 2019 draft choice on December 10 & 13. Turning away 43 combined shots, Kochetkov became the first Canes netminder since Kevin Weekes in 2003 to record back-to-back perfect games and would go on to earn league Rookie of the Month honors for his work.

Raanta's 17-Game Point Streak

There were several franchise records set this season, but the thought that Antti Raanta earned 17 consecutive decisions without suffering a regulation loss is still bananas to think about.

From November 17 to April 4, the veteran netminder went 15-0-2, including a stint of two shutouts in four starts.

While he'll be the first to credit the defense in front of him for minimizing the threatening opportunities, Raanta allowed more than four goals just once, but thankfully the offense came ready to play on December 23, holding on for a 6-5 victory over Philadelphia.
