LINEUP NOTES AND PETERS QUOTES
5:15 p.m.
The news regarding Eddie Lack's scary-looking injury from last night continues to be positive.
"He's stiff and sore, as you can imagine, and he's going to get some more treatment here this evening when he comes back and gets looked at," head coach Bill Peters said. "But I think we dodged a bullet there."
There's even a chance Lack could return to the ice in the final weeks of the season.
"I think so. I hope so," Peters said. "I'm being optimistic with that."
Considering what could have been, perhaps today's news can provide a spark of energy for the Canes' in the latter half of a back-to-back.
"Everyone was kind of on pins and needles waiting to hear the news. We got the text or email, whatever was sent out last night. That allows you to breathe a little easier and get a little bit of sleep, anyway. It's definitely on your mind," Peters said. "Now we've got to find a way to park it and play a game."
As far as tonight's rematch goes, Matt Tennyson will draw into the lineup on the back-end, replacing Ryan Murphy who will not play with a lower-body injury.
More from the head coach ahead of tonight's game.
On the 3-in-3 for Detroit and the back-to-back for Carolina: "That's fine. 3-in-3, back-to-back, everyone's done it in their life, many a time. Now you just go out and play."
On what he expects from tonight's game: "We've got to get off to a good start here tonight and get a little bit of an O-zone grind game going. I don't think we did much of that last night, and we need to establish some O-zone time."
On what he'd like to see cleaned up from last night: "We turned the puck over a little bit. We made it harder than it needed to be in the neutral zone, so we need to clean that up. If we do that, it will allow us to play in the O-zone more. Those two things kind of go hand-in-hand."

LACK UPDATE, NEDELJKOVIC RECALLED
11:25 a.m.
First, the good news on Eddie Lack. He was released from UNC REX Hospital on Monday night after his scans came back clean, and he's been
diagnosed with a neck strain
.

Lack won't be available tonight, though, so the
Hurricanes recalled Alex Nedeljkovic
from Florida (ECHL) to back up Cam Ward. Nedeljkovic made his
NHL debut in relief
on Jan. 17 in Columbus, making 17 saves on the 17 shots he faced.
CANES TRY TO REFOCUS AFTER SCARY OT LOSS
6:00 a.m.
A dark cloud of uncertainty hung low over the result of the first of two straight meetings between the Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes earned a point in a 4-3 loss to the Red Wings, but it was the injury to goaltender Eddie Lack on the game-winning goal that was of chief concern.
While attempting to make a game-saving stop, Lack was on the receiving end of a high-speed collision, as Andreas Arthanasiou plowed into the Canes' goaltender just after sliding in the game-winning shot.
"It's hard to think about the game," Jordan Staal said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Eddie right now."
