Canes To Face Panthers In Eastern Conference Final

RALEIGH, NC. -The Carolina Hurricanes punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Final on Thursday, eliminating the New Jersey Devils in Game 5 of their series.

Now, just 24 hours later, they know their foe.

The Florida Panthers also took care of business in Game 5, putting away the Toronto Maple Leafs and advancing to the conference finals for the first time since 1996.

Prior to their victory over Toronto, the Panthers defeated the Presidents' Trophy-winning Boston Bruins in seven games.

The upcoming series will be the first time that the Canes and Panthers will meet in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Carolina and Florida met three times during the 82-game regular season, with the Metropolitan Division Champions emerging as the victor in two of the bouts.

The Panthers opened the season series with a

37-save shutout from Spencer Knight on November 9

. In their next meeting, Antti Raanta returned the favor with

19 saves in a perfect performance of his own

. Then, in the final game of the regular season for both organizations,

Carolina prevailed with a 6-4 victory

Schedule information on the series is expected to be released by the NHL in the coming days. The Canes hold home-ice advantage, meaning that Games 1 & 2, as well as 5 & 7, if necessary, will be at PNC Arena.
