RALEIGH, N.C. - The Hurricanes are celebrating IIHF World Girls’ Hockey Weekend on Friday, October 3rd at the Lenovo Center. Started by the International Ice Hockey Federation in 2011, World Girls' Hockey Weekend provides an opportunity for girls around the world to try the sport of hockey and celebrate all who make the game great.

Itinerary of Events

5:00-5:45 p.m.: Lil’ Lady Canes Scrimmage

  • 50 girls, ages 5-11 years old, will participate
  • T-shirts & giveaways upon entrance for participants

6:00-7:15 p.m.: “The Storm Surge Showdown”

  • Girls' high school hockey scrimmage
  • Ceremonial puck drop with Canes goalie Pyotr Kochetkov
  • Play-by-play from Shane Willis & Hanna Yates in between the benches
  • Game day snacks & soft drinks available
  • Poster-making station
  • Signed items & opening night game ticket giveaways
  • The Storm Surge Showdown Cup award ceremony and picture

7:15-8:00 p.m.: Open Skate

  • Registration link here
  • Girls and women of all ages are welcome to skate
  • Hanna Yates will discuss her journey in sports
  • Skate rentals available

Approximately 100 female players made their way to Lenovo Center for the 2024 event, including on-ice activities ranging from beginner-level to elite-level hockey, and a Try Hockey for Free event.
