FLAMES REDUCE ROSTER BY 21

47 players remain at training camp

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned six players to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Stockton Heat: Kayle Doetzel (RD), Brett Findlay (C), Mason McDonald (G), Rod Pelley (C), Hunter Smith (RW) and Oleg Yevenko (LD).

The Flames also announced that they have assigned the following ten players to their respective junior clubs: Sam Dove-McFalls (Saint John/QMJHL), Zach Fischer (Medicine Hat/WHL), Glenn Gawdin (Swift Current/WHL), Ben Hawerchuk (Barrie/OHL), Tyson Helgesen (Spokane/WHL), Brad Morrison (Vancouver/WHL), Matthew Phillips (Victoria/WHL), Mark Rassell (Medicine Hat/WHL), Adam Ruzicka (Sarnia/OHL) and Nick Schneider (Calgary/WHL).

The Flames have released the following five players who have been invited to Stockton's training camp : Joel Lowry (LW), Daniel Maggio (RD), Dylan Olsen (LD), Sam Ruopp (LD) and Cliff Watson (LD).

Calgary has 47 players remaining at training camp (5x goalies, 14x defencemen, 28x forwards).

FLAMES SIGN SAM BENNETT

The forward has signed a two-year deal

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed forward Sam Bennett to a two-year contract.

Bennett, a native of Holland Landing, Ontario played 81 games with Calgary last season recording 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points along with 75 penalty minutes in the regular season and a pair of goals in four playoff games. As the Flames first round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, the 21-year-old forward has played 159 career NHL games, notching 31 goals and 32 assists for 63 points while accumulating 112 penalty minutes.

FLAMES SIGN TYLER WOTHERSPOON

The defenceman has inked a one-year deal with the club

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon to a one-year, two-way contract.

Wotherspoon, the 57th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, just finished his fourth season with the Flames organization. The 24-year-old netted a career high six goals and added 12 assists for 18 points and 24 penalty minutes in 56 games with the Stockton Heat in the AHL last year in addition to playing four games with the Calgary Flames.

FLAMES SIGN BRETT KULAK

The blueliner has inked a one-year, two-way deal with the club

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed defenceman Brett Kulak to a one year, two-way contract.

Kulak, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, split last season between the Calgary Flames and their AHL affiliate Stockton Heat. With Calgary, Kulak had three assists and 12 penalty minutes in 21 regular season games and added a pair of goals along with eight assists for 10 points and 14 penalty minutes in 22 games with Stockton. In the playoffs, Kulak led all Heat blueliners in playoff scoring and tied the team high with four assists in five games.

The Stockton Heat, proud AHL affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames, announced today the 2017-18 Hockey Operations staff including the contract extension of Heat Head Coach Ryan Huska, the return of Assistant Coach Domenic Pittis, Goaltending Coach Colin Zulianello, Head Equipment Manager Peter Bureaux along with Strength & Conditioning Coach Alan Selby and the additions of Assistant Coach Cail MacLean, Head Athletic Trainer James Borrelli, Video Analyst and Team Services Kohl Schultz and Assistant Equipment Manager Mitch MacLeod.

FLAMES RE-SIGN JON GILLIES AND DAVID RITTICH

Pair of netminders ink one-year pacts with club

The Flames announced today that they have signed goaltenders Jon Gillies and David Rittich, each to a one year two-way contract.

Gillies, a native of Concord, New Hampshire, played 39 games with the Stockton Heat last season with an 18-14-1 record, a 2.93 GAA, a .910 save percentage and one shutout. The 23-year-old made his NHL debut for the Flames in Los Angeles on April 6th with a 27 save performance earning a 4-1 win.

FLAMES SIGN JUUSO VALIMAKI

The Flames' 2017 first round pick has inked an entry-level contract with the club

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed their 2017 first round draft pick Juuso Valimaki to a three-year entry-level contract.

Valimaki, a native of Nokia, Finland, spent the last two seasons on the blueline for the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League. Last season he netted 19 goals to go along with 42 assists for 61 points and 34 penalty minutes in 60 regular season games which placed him seventh amongst WHL defencemen.

FLAMES RE-SIGN GARNET HATHAWAY

Calgary has inked the forward to a one-year deal

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed forward Garnet Hathaway to a one year two-way contract.

Hathaway, a native of Kennebunkport, Maine, split the season between the Calgary Flames and their AHL affiliate Stockton Heat. While with the Flames, Hathaway played 26 games picking up a goal and four assists along with 44 penalty minutes. With Stockton, he scored eight goals and added 12 assists for 20 points and 67 penalty minutes in 31 regular season games before adding a pair of goals and assists in five playoff games.

FLAMES SIGN CURTIS LAZAR

The forward has signed a two-year contract with the club

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed forward Curtis Lazar to a two-year contract.

The Flames originally acquired Lazar on March 1st, 2017 in a trade with Ottawa that included defenceman Mike Kostka in exchange for Jyrki Jokipakka and Calgary's second round pick in 2017. The native of Salmon Arm, BC was a first round pick (17th overall) by the Senators in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Lazar played in four games with Calgary following the trade, recording three points from one goal and two assists. He also appeared in one playoff game with the Flames. Lazar has played 180 regular season games in the NHL and recorded 39 points (13G, 26A) and 36 PIM. The 22-year-old captained the gold medal-winning Team Canada squad at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championships in Toronto and Montreal.

FLAMES RE-SIGN MICHEAL FERLAND

Talented left-winger inks new two-year pact

The Flames announced today that they have signed forward Micheal Ferland to a two-year contract.

Ferland, a native of Brandon, Manitoba played 76 games with Calgary last season recording career highs in goals (15) and points (25). The 25 year old forward has played 173 career NHL games, all with the Flames, notching 21 goals and 27 assists for 48 points while accumulating 111 penalty minutes.
