DallasStars.com's Mike Heika breaks down the top performances at the 2019 NHL Prospect Tournament

by Mike Heika @MikeHeika / Senior Staff Writer

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- A springboard to training camp was the goal of the Stars at the 2019 NHL Prospect Tournament at Centre ICE Arena, and general manager Jim Nill said this group accomplished just that.

"It was so good for so many players," Nill said. "I like the way Riley Tufte played, (Ty) Dellandrea. I just felt most of the players played to their strengths and did what they were supposed to do. The leaders led, the skilled players played with skill."

Dellandrea not looking ahead in quest to stick with Stars

The 2018 first-round pick has to take this season one step at a time, but step one in Traverse City was pretty good

by Mike Heika @MikeHeika / Senior Staff Writer

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Ty Dellandrea showed the spectrum of his game Friday.

The 19-year-old forward made a slick assist on a Nicholas Porco goal in the first period, was an important penalty killer in the middle of the game, and then took the final faceoff as the Minnesota Wild prospects were trying to get the tying goal with an extra skater.

All of that contributed to a 2-1 win for the Stars in the opening game of the 2019 NHL Prospect Tournament at Centre ICE Arena. Dellandrea was an important part of an important win, but Stars assistant general manager Scott White said it shouldn't be unexpected.

"Ty Dellandrea was Ty Dellandrea," White said. "That's what you get from him every night."
