Despite major snowfall, rink build on schedule for NHL100 Classic

Ice makers in Ottawa successfully battling elements for Saturday outdoor game

OTTAWA -- As his crew worked on the rink at Lansdowne Park in swirling snow Tuesday, Derek King, NHL senior manager of facilities operations/hockey operations, declared everything ready to go for the 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic.

The game Saturday (7 p.m. ET; CBC, SN, TVA Sports, NBCSN, NHL.TV) between the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators will mark the culmination of the League's Centennial celebrations and coincide with Canada's 150th celebration, the 25th anniversary of the Senators and the 125th birthday of the Stanley Cup.

OTTAWA -- Chris Phillips said the thing he misses most about playing in the NHL is the company of his teammates.

The defenseman, who spent his 17-season NHL career with the Ottawa Senators after they chose him with the No. 1 pick of the 1996 NHL Draft, will get a chance to catch up with many of them at the Senators Alumni Classic at the Canada 150 Rink outdoors on Parliament Hill on Dec. 15, the night before the current Senators and Montreal Canadiens play the 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic at Lansdowne Park (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, SN, TVA Sports, NHL.TV).

Country music star Hicks joins entertainment lineup for NHL100 Classic

NEW YORK / TORONTO - Platinum-selling country music star Tim Hicks and JUNO Award-winning singer-songwriter Serena Ryder have joined the entertainment lineup for the 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic™, the outdoor game between the Ottawa Senators® and Montreal Canadiens® on Saturday, Dec. 16 at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa, the National Hockey League announced today. The game, which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the League's first games played on Dec. 19, 1917, will be broadcast live on Hockey Night in Canada and TVA Sports in Canada and on NBCSN in the U.S. at 7 p.m. ET.

TORONTO -- The National Hockey League (NHL) and its corporate partners will entertain hockey fans in Ottawa with The PreGame, the official tailgate party of the 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic™ - the regular season outdoor game on Dec. 16 at Lansdowne Park between the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the League's first games played on Dec. 19, 1917.

The two-day hockey-themed, family-friendly festival will be hosted at the Aberdeen Pavilion and Aberdeen Square (1000 Exhibition Way) in Ottawa on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 1-7 p.m. ET and Sunday, Dec. 17 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. ET. The PreGame is free of charge and open to fans of all ages. A ticket to the NHL100 Classic is not required for entry.

OTTAWA -- The transformation of Lansdowne Park for the 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic between the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators on Dec. 16 (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, CBC, TVA Sports) began Monday.

The 53-foot trailer which houses the ice plant used to make the ice for the outdoor game was parked behind the football stadium, the home of the Ottawa RedBlacks of the Canadian Football League, and workers were putting down 52,000 square feet of plywood to cover the field for the 22nd outdoor game the NHL has played since the first Winter Classic, on Jan. 1, 2008.
