Fantasy: Top 100 forward rankings for July

Taylor Hall boosts Devils; draft picks, Alexander Radulov join list

by Pete Jensen @NHLJensen / Fantasy Insider

The fantasy forward landscape is always dictated by line combinations. Player movement from the 2016 NHL Draft, recent trades and free agent signings have already spurred plenty of potential lineup and production changes around the League.

The most valuable fantasy forward to change teams is left wing Taylor Hall, who could ignite the New Jersey Devils offense. Center Adam Henrique, who scored 30 goals last season and reunites with his Ontario Hockey League teammate, has a chance to take the next step into the 60-point range. Forward Kyle Palmieri, who also scored 30 goals last season, could play on the right side of that line or on the second line with left wing Michael Cammalleri and sustain his breakout performance. There are now four Devils ranked among the top 100 forwards.

Then there's category cog Milan Lucic, who gives the Edmonton Oilers a much-needed physical element and could see a splash of center Connor McDavid's elite point production. Right wing Kyle Okposo should be on the first power-play unit for the Buffalo Sabres and will likely play even-strength minutes with Jack Eichel or Ryan O'Reilly. Veteran duo Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin should see at least a slight boost from a 30-goal linemate after the Vancouver Canucks signed Loui Eriksson, and you have to expect Andrew Ladd and/or PA Parenteau will benefit from exposure to John Tavares with the New York Islanders. There's even a chance Troy Brouwer, signed by the Calgary Flames, could play right wing next to Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan.

The top two picks in the 2016 NHL Draft, Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Patrik Laine of the Winnipeg Jets, have feasible roads to a top-six role. In best-case scenarios, Matthews could line up next to James van Riemsdyk and either Leo Komarov or William Nylander, and Laine could land on the left side of high-end fantasy forwards Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler.

And let's not forget about the San Jose Sharks, who could have Stanley Cup Playoff standouts Logan Couture and Joonas Donskoi flanked by Mikkel Boedker. That line is capable of outstanding production in the shadow of the top line (Tomas Hertl, Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski).

Also new to the top 100 is right wing Alexander Radulov, who will put his strong Kontinental Hockey League production to the test as a likely top-six forward for the Montreal Canadiens. But even with his inclusion, the departure of defenseman P.K. Subban could have negative ramifications in all situations on the value of forwards Max Pacioretty, Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk. Conversely, the addition of Subban to the Nashville Predators could lead to greater levels of power-play production for top-35 forwards Ryan Johansen, James Neal and/or Filip Forsberg.

Here's a look at the updated fantasy forward rankings for standard Yahoo leagues (goals, assists, plus/minus, penalty minutes, power-play points, shots on goal), along with 20 players who just missed the cut. This list will continue to be updated leading up to training camp.
