Barrie, who is tied for second among NHL defensemen with 27 points (four goals, 23 assists) in 34 games, will have surgery Thursday and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. He was injured blocking a shot in the Avalanche's 6-2 win at Arizona on Saturday.
Goalie Antti Raanta will start for the Coyotes, who are 1-7-1 in their past nine games and 0-4-2 in their past six road games.

Coyotes forward Clayton Keller has two goals and four assists during a five-game point streak.
Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen has one goal and six assists during a six-game point streak.

Crouse was recalled from Tucson of the American Hockey League on Tuesday. Richardson was injured Saturday against Colorado and didn't make the trip.
