The Series So Far...

  • **Game 1**: Frederik Andersen turned in a 22-save shutout, backstopping the Canes to a 2-0 victory.

The Kids Are Alright...

  • The two youngest Hurricanes took the reins offensively in Game 1, as Logan Stankoven (1G, 1A) and Jackson Blake (2A) became the sixth 23-and-under duo in team history (since relocation) to record two or more points in the same playoff game.
  • Stankoven's tally stood as his third career playoff game-winning goal, helping him become the first player in franchise history to reach that number before turning 24 years old.

In Net...

  • Rod Brind'Amour, as expected, did not confirm his starter during Sunday's media availability. The Canes' bench boss previously noted that both Frederik Andersen and Brandon Bussi will likely play during Round 1, but did not indicate what a potential rotation could look like.
  • After blanking the Sens in Game 1, it would hardly be a surprise to see Andersen get the chance to replicate his performance in Game 2. The veteran's sixth career shutout tied him for the sixth-most such showings in NHL history by a goaltender born outside North America.
  • Bussi, meanwhile, wrapped up the regular season on a heater, following up his first set of consecutive losses (0-3-0) with a 6-0-1 run and allowing two or fewer goals in four of those wins. If and when he appears this postseason, it'll be his Stanley Cup Playoff debut.
  • Pyotr Kochetkov's surprising return could add a new dimension to the Canes' crease as the playoffs roll on, but Brind'Amour indicated that, while he is healthy, the Russian backstop was not yet a viable starting option as he works his way back from lower-body surgery.

On The Other Side...

  • Ottawa failed to find the back of the net in Game 1 but stood toe-to-toe with the top seed in the Eastern Conference — literally and figuratively.
  • German star Tim Stutzle was a frequent threat, leading his team in shots (4) and pacing both teams' forwards in ice time (23:05).
  • Netminder Linus Ullmark put together a solid showing with 27 saves on 29 shots, including a handful of highlight-reel efforts, but was outdueled at the other end by Andersen.
  • One question mark is the status of defenseman Artem Zub, who left Game 1 with an injury. Head Coach Travis Green did not have an update on Sunday, and a team that used 13 different blueliners during the regular season may have to rely on its depth once more.

Injury Updates...

  • The Canes currently do not have any injuries to report.
