Tracking The Storylines
Trudging Forward: Last night the Canes made franchise history, beginning a season with six consecutive wins for the first time. Tonight they'll look to add another scoop to their metophorical sundae, hoping to make it 7-0-0.
Last of a Dying Breed:The Canes are one of just two remaining undefeated teams in the NHL entering Friday evening. The other club, the Florida Panthers, are 7-0-0 and will take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight at Little Caesars Arena.
Time For Fresh Legs?:Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour is in a predicament due to the team's current standing, albeit a good problem to have. The team has won each outing this season, but playing two games in two nights is usually a time to utilize both netminders and get some of the scratched players into the lineup. How do you alter a roster that hasn't provided any letdown thus far though? It will be very interesting to see who comes out of the tunnel for warmups tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Andersen's History:Backstopping all six of the team's wins thus far, last night Canes goaltender Frederik Andersen matched NHL history, becoming just the second netminder to be 6-0-0 through his team's first six games in his first season as a member of the club. The other, Frank McCool of the Toronto Maple Leafs, did so during the 1944-45 season. A vastly different time in hockey, McCool's path to history was paved a bit easier though, as he was the only goalie on the Maple Leafs roster that season, playing in all 50 games.
Milestone Watch: Teuvo Teravainen is two goals shy of 100 NHL goals.
What Color Are We Wearing?: Tonight the team will be wearing their black alternate sweaters for the first time this season.
