8.3.22 Justin Williams 25th Anniversary

When it comes to the greatest nicknames in all of hockey, it is hard to top that of Justin Williams' "Mr. Game 7."

Earning that sobriquet on his way to winning three Stanley Cups, his first came in 2006 in Raleigh.
Previously acquired from Philadelphia in exchange for Danny Markov in January of 2004, the then 22-year-old Williams became every bit of the player he was anticipated to be when the Flyers selected him in the first round.
Producing back-to-back 30+ goals seasons and 143 points in his first two full seasons with the club, the first of two was the one that concluded with a celebration in the PNC Arena ice. His 18 points in 25 playoff games were an integral part of what led the team to their first Stanley Cup, including the empty netter to seal the deal in Game 7.
After being rewarded with a five-year contract, Williams' injury woes that previously existed in Philadelphia perked up once again. Suffering a torn Achilles tendon and a broken hand within a year, the All-Star would then go on to be dealt to the Los Angeles Kings.
However, his book in Carolina would not be over.
Returning in 2017 after spending a combined nine years in Los Angeles and Washington, Williams would go on to play an important role in leading the Hurricanes back to the playoffs for the first time in nine years.
After officially retiring in 2020, Williams now serves as a Special Advisor to General Manager Don Waddell.
