Training Camp Presented by Vanderbilt Health: July 15

The Predators are considered to have one of the top goaltending tandems in the NHL, and Juuse Saros showed he belonged with an impressive 2019-20 season.
Saros established career highs in games played (40), starts (34) and shutouts (4) during the shortened campaign and saw more appearances than his fellow netminder, Pekka Rinne, for the first time. Drafted by the Preds in 2013, Saros showed he was capable of becoming a full-time NHL goaltender after years of development. After backstopping the Predators down the stretch last season, before things were ultimately canceled, Saros started all four of Nashville's games in the Stanley Cup Qualifier Round against Arizona as well.

The 25-year-old has spent four full seasons in the NHL with the Predators, going 55-36-16 with a 2.56 goals-against average, .918 save percentage and 11 shutouts. He has matched or improved his win total in each of his four seasons, winning a career-high 17 in both 2018-19 and 2019-20.
With a compact schedule in this shortened season, the teams with two goalies who can win in short order are bound to be successful, and Saros helps to give the Preds that chance.
By the Numbers:
- Saros went 12-5-0 in his final 17 starts of the 2019-20 regular season (dating back to Jan. 12); in that time span (minimum 10 games played), he tied for first in shutouts (4), was second in wins (12), tied for third in save percentage (.935) and fourth in goals-against average (2.13) among NHL goaltenders.
- He recorded a career-best shutout streak of 181:07 from March 3-10, the second-longest in Predators history (Dan Ellis owns the franchise record at 233:39, set in 2008).
- His 11 career shutouts are the most by any active NHL goaltender his age or younger.
Fun Fact:
- Saros's father's name is Pekka, just like his goaltending partner in Nashville.
