The second half of Nashville's four-game homestand begins tonight as the Predators welcome the Detroit Red Wings to Bridgestone Arena for a two-game set. This evening's contest is the first of eight scheduled meetings between the divisional foes; the Preds and Wings used to be bitter rivals when Detroit was in a former version of the Central Division, and they find themselves back in the group temporarily for the 2020-21 campaign.
The Predators will be looking to get back in the win column, after dropping a pair of games to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday and Tuesday night by a combined score of 10-2. Filip Forsberg pointed to a lack of execution from the Preds on Tuesday as a contributing factor to the loss, and Nashville will try to find a way to end their three-game skid tonight.

Coach Hynes previews two-game set with Detroit

"You've just got to find a way to get it done," Preds forward Rocco Grimaldi said following Tuesday's loss. "It sucks that we're going through this right now, but hopefully this is going to make us stronger. Hopefully, this is going to bind us together as a team. This is something that we all need to come together, grab the rope and get through this. It's not 82 games, but there's still a lot of season left. There's no time to panic right now. We've got to stick together. I think that's the biggest thing right now - let's stay together as a team."
Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing Monday's game to be with his wife for the birth of their second child, but Ekholm did not play in the third period on Tuesday night due to injury. Preds Head Coach John Hynes did not have an update on Ekholm's status following the contest.

Tinordi, Kunin look for positive play against Wings

Forward Sean Malone made his Preds debut on Tuesday night and recorded an assist in the loss. Forward Luke Kunin also returned to the lineup after missing the previous four games with a lower-body injury. Predators forwards Nick Cousins and Erik Haula, as well as defenseman Jarred Tinordi, were scratched on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the Preds recalled defenseman Alexandre Carrier from Chicago (AHL) to the taxi squad. The team also reassigned forward Anthony Richard to Chicago (AHL) from the taxi squad and reassigned forwards Michael McCarron and Sean Malone to the taxi squad.
Update: The Preds have placed defenseman Mattias Ekholm (lower-body) and forward Mathieu Olivier (upper-body) on Injured Reserve. The team has also recalled forward Eeli Tolvanen and defenseman Ben Harpur from the taxi squad.
The Good Guys:
Grimaldi scored the lone goal for Nashville in Tuesday's 6-1 loss to Tampa Bay, and Juuse Saros made 24 saves on the night.
Filip Forsberg leads the Preds in scoring with six goals and 11 points, followed by Mikael Granlund (3g-4a) and Viktor Arvidsson (2g-5a) with seven points apiece. Arvidsson, Grimaldi, Kunin, Roman Josi, Matt Duchene, Calle Jarnkrok and Colton Sissons each have two goals on the season. Saros is 3-4-0 in net for the Predators; Pekka Rinne has a 2-4-0 record.
The Opposition:
The Red Wings (3-9-2) are the only team behind the Preds in the Central Division. Detroit has won just once in their last 10 games, most recently falling 2-1 to the Panthers on Tuesday night.
Dylan Larkin leads the Wings in scoring with nine points (4g-5a), followed by Tyler Bertuzzi (5g-2a), Bobby Ryan (4g-3a) and Anthony Mantha (4g-3a) with seven points apiece. Goaltender Thomas Greiss is 1-8-2 in net for Detroit, while Jonathan Bernier is 2-1-0 on the season.
All-Time Meetings:
The Predators are 36-49-(4)-10 all-time against the Red Wings, including a 21-23-(2)-3 record at Bridgestone Arena. This will be the 100th meeting between the two teams, Nashville's third-most games played against a single opponent behind St. Louis (118) and Chicago (119).
Prior to this season, the Predators and Red Wings were Central Division foes for 14 seasons from 1998-99 to 2012-13. Nashville is 2-2-1 in its last five games against Detroit, including a 6-1 win on Nov. 4, 2019, at Little Caesars Arena.
The Predators are seeking their first home victory over the Red Wings since Dec. 30, 2013, a six-game stretch. On Feb. 28, 2009, the Predators defeated the Red Wings, 8-0, at Bridgestone Arena. It remains the highest margin of victory in a game in franchise history.
Notables Versus Detroit:
Roman Josi has 14 points (2g-12a) in 24 career meetings with Detroit, including seven points (7a) in his last eight games against the Red Wings. Filip Forsberg is on a three-game point streak versus Detroit, tallying two goals and five points, including a multi-point effort (1g-1a) in his last game against the Red Wings on Nov. 4, 2019.
