Game Day: Preds at Red Wings Preview

After another significant win over the Blackhawks on Saturday in Nashville, the Predators are back on the road to face the Red Wings for a pair of outings this week in Detroit. Tonight's contest at Little Caesars Arena is the seventh of eight meetings between the divisional foes this season; Nashville is 4-2-0 against the Wings in 2020-21, including a two-game sweep in Nashville two weeks ago.
The Predators saw their six-game winning streak come to an end last week, but they rebounded with a 3-0 shutout victory against Chicago to hold onto the fourth spot in the Central Division. Nashville has won nine of their last 11 games overall, and with just 17 contests to go in the regular season, the intensity is sure to ramp up each and every night.

"We understand how important these games are, especially with these games that are head-to-head to teams that are right neck-and-neck with us," Preds forward Colton Sissons said following Saturday's win. "So, we've been able to rise to the occasion and not kind of succumb to that pressure and make mistakes all night long. We're pretty comfortable right now, and we've built some confidence over the last few weeks here."
After a day off on Easter Sunday, the Predators held off-ice meetings and workouts on Monday, but they are expected to skate this morning in Detroit.

Preds forward Viktor Arvidsson left Saturday's game with "upper-body discomfort" and did not return. On Monday, the Preds announced Arvidsson is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, and he did travel with the team to Detroit. Nashville defenseman Alexandre Carrier will miss 3-5 weeks with a lower-body injury to join the list of Predators who are currently out of the lineup.
Forwards Filip Forsberg, Matt Duchene and Brad Richardson, as well as defensemen Ryan Ellis, Mark Borowiecki and Luca Sbisa all remain week-to-week with their respective injuries.
Morning Skate Update: Preds Head Coach John Hynes said Arvidsson is not available to play tonight in Detroit, but the winger is making "significant process" from his injury. He remains day-to-day.

The Good Guys:
Sissons scored on a penalty shot in Saturday's win, while Eeli Tolvanen converted on the power play and Luke Kunin added a goal in the third period to put the game out of reach. However, Juuse Saros was the star of the day as he stopped all 41 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season and 13th of his career.
With Forsberg injured, Roman Josi is Nashville's active leading scorer with 22 points (4g-18a), followed by Calle Jarnkrok (11g-8a) and Tolvanen (10g-9a) with 19 points apiece. Mikael Granlund and Rocco Grimaldi each have eight goals for Nashville, and four of Grimaldi's eight came the last time the Preds and Wings got together. Saros is 11-7-0 in net for the Preds; Pekka Rinne is 9-11-1.
The Opposition:
Detroit will be feeling confident after ending a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 win in Tampa Bay on Sunday afternoon. Filip Hronek leads the Wings with 22 points (2g-20a), followed by Anthony Mantha (10g-10a) and Dylan Larkin (7g-13a) with 20 points apiece. Robby Fabbri also has 10 goals on the season; Adam Erne has eight and Bobby Ryan has seven. Thomas Greiss is 3-15-5 in net for the Wings; Calvin Pickard is 2-1-0.
All-Time Meetings:
The Predators are 40-51-(4)-10 all-time against the Red Wings, including a 16-27-(2)-7 record on the road. This will be the 106th meeting between the two teams, Nashville's third-most games played against a single opponent behind Chicago (122) and St. Louis (118).
Nashville has won five of its last seven games against Detroit, including a 4-2-0 record (1-1-0 at home) this season. The Predators are 3-1-1 in five road games at Little Caesars Arena since Detroit opened the venue in 2017-18.
Notables Versus Detroit:
Following his shutout on March 23 and win on March 25, Juuse Saros moved to 3-2-0 in his career against the Red Wings with a 1.90 goals-against average and .935 save percentage.
Rocco Grimaldi scored four goals on March 25 versus Detroit, a career high and tied for the most by a Preds player in a game in franchise history. He moved from Anaheim, California, to the Detroit area to play for the Little Caesars AAA program from 2005-09.
Eeli Tolvanen is on a four-game point streak against the Red Wings (2g-2a) that began on Feb. 23, and Dante Fabbro has four points (1g-3a) in his last six meetings against the Red Wings.
