Bedzy's Big Break

Bowling Green University goaltender and Panthers 2015 seventh rounder Ryan Bednard earned his first college career shutout in his second career start. The freshman netminder stopped all 11 shots faced against Alaska-Anchorage this past weekend.

The Springfield Thunderbirds enter the week looking to snap a six-game winless streak (0-3-3) . The T-Birds fell to the Hershey Bears in a weekend sweep on Friday/Saturday in a home-and-home series.
Springfield fell to Hershey 5-2 on Friday in their first game following the Thanksgiving holiday. In a night of firsts, defenseman Mike Downing recorded his first professional career goal to tie the game 1-1 in the first period, followed by forward Shane Harper netting his first goal as a Thunderbird.

The following night, the T-Birds fell 4-3 to the Bears. Forward Anthony Greco notched his second goal of the season, while Jared McCann scored his first career AHL goal in his second career AHL game. Harper notched his second goal in as many games to get Springfield within one of the Bears as Thomas Schemitsch earned his first AHL assist on the goal. Newly acquired forward Michael Sgarbossa recorded two assists in the game.

Thommy Boy

Veteran forward Paul Thompson leads the young T-Birds squad with 13 points (5-8-13) in 18 games. The 27-year old Methuen, Mass., native has recorded six points (1-6-7) over his last seven games. Thompson is currently 10 goals away from reaching his 100th AHL goal.

Behind the Mascherin

Panthers prospect Adam Mascherin enters the week on a 10-game point streak, recording 16 points (8-8-16) in the 10-game span for the Kitchener Rangers. Mascherin has recorded a point in all but one game played in November. Florida's 2016 second rounder ranks fourth in the Ontario Hockey League for scoring with 43 points (17-26-43) in 24 games. His nine power play goals this season rank him first in the OHL, while his 26 assists tie him for fourth. This past weekend, the Rangers forward scored goals in back-to-back games.
