The Florida Panthers are riding out these unprecedented times much like the rest of us.
Whether it's finding creative ways to stay in shape or brushing up on their culinary skills in the kitchen, players have hunkered down and begun to find ways to adapt to their new routines at home as the NHL remains on pause during the COVID-19 pandemic that's gripped the world.
Through this new "Cats Check-In" series, FloridaPanthers.com's Jameson Olive will be catching up with some of these players to see how they've been spending their days, with questions ranging from what they're currently binge-watching on TV to how they're keeping in shape.
This week's check-in: Panthers forward Colton Sceviour.

OLIVE: Like many of your teammates, you're riding this out down in South Florida. If you could, take me through a typical day in your life since the NHL season went on pause.
SCEVIOUR:There's not too much. I usually get up when my son, Declan, gets up around 7 or 7:30 a.m. I feed him breakfast and then kill some time around the house before we all go on a walk. Then we come back and have lunch, we put him down for a nap and then kind of get stuff done around the house, whether it's working out or getting dinner ready, that kind of stuff. Then in the afternoon we'll usually either go for another walk or play in the backyard. We just try and do something to keep him entertained and keep ourselves from being inside all the time. Once he goes down for bed, my wife and I usually just watch TV or hang out. A lot of it is just trying to pass time, organizing sections of the house, cleaning things, really anything to keep us busy.
OLIVE: It seems like Declan really sets the schedule for you guys.
SCEVIOUR: Yeah, more or less. It makes things easier if you have a bit of a schedule, so he's kind of become our schedule *laughs*]. He has certain things he does during the day like naps and stuff, so we work around that. I think he's had a tougher time with this than we have. It's tough for us, but we can understand. He doesn't get why he keeps seeing the same four walls all the time and that's just me and mom. He gets frustrated some days, and there's times where you can tell he wants to do more stuff. We just try and keep him as entertained as possible.

OLIVE: That being said, given that your job keeps you on the road a lot throughout the year, has it been nice to have this added family time despite the tough circumstances?
SCEVIOUR: The family time has been awesome. It's something you don't usually get this time of year. And even in the summer, things like training and summer skating still keep you out for large chunks of the day. Being around him all day every day is definitely different, but it's been enjoyable at the same time.
OLIVE: You mentioned working out in the afternoon as part of your new day-to-day routine. I know it's been different for every guy, so how are you staying in shape?
SCEVIOUR: Equipment-wise, I'm more limited. I got a Peloton at the beginning of the season, so I've been doing at-home spin classes and stuff like that. I've also being doing bodyweight stuff outside. It's nice and warm, so it's nice to get out of the house and do stuff like that. I don't have a lot of weights, so it's mostly bodyweight stuff and then cardio on the bike. Beyond that, there's not a whole lot of other options right now.
OLIVE: How have you adjusted to suddenly not being on the ice almost every day?
SCEVIOUR:It's been strange. There are certain times when you know you're going to do it. It happens in the summer and things like that. You know those are coming. But this came out of nowhere. One day you were playing through your regular-season schedule and then the next day you're at home. It's been very different being at home and not skating this time of the year.
OLIVE: I know we're all practicing social distancing right now, but have you managed to keep in touch with some of your Panthers teammates?
SCEVIOUR: Yeah. We still have our group chat going, so that's keeping guys together. Everyone's going through the same thing, but we're all finding our own ways to keep ourselves busy.
OLIVE: Is the chat getting a little weirder as time goes on and guys get more restless?
SCEVIOUR: It got weird early on, but it's kind of chilled down since then. I'm sure it'll pick back up at some point *laughs*].
**OLIVE: You mentioned earlier that you usually end your nights on the couch. Have you been watching any interesting movies or television shows during all of this downtime?**
**SCEVIOUR:** We just finished season two of "You" on Netflix. We got a little behind on that. We don't watch a ton of it, so we finally got some time to do that. Then we just started "Tiger King" because everyone's been watching it and said we had to do it. We've watched one episode of that, so the next few weeks we'll probably chip away more at it. We're not binging multiple episodes quite yet, but maybe if it's as good as everyone says it is we'll go through it quicker.

OLIVE: I've been seeing quite a few posts on social media of guys doing puzzles, painting pictures and other things like that. Have you picked up any new hobbies?
SCEVIOUR: I've been barbequing a little bit more. I have one of those, I think it's called a "cheater smoker," that kind of keeps temperature on it's own. I have a big brisket here that I'll do one of these days. It does take a little more time because you have to keep an eye on it, but that'll help pass some time. I've also actually picked up a video game for the first time in a couple years. I've had a system in my house in the box forever. I picked up the new MLB: The Show for PlayStation 4, so I've got into that a little bit, but I honestly haven't played in three years [laughs]. With this time, I'm kind of falling back into older hobbies rather than starting new ones.
OLIVE: Grilling? Do you like to cook in the kitchen or do you just stick to the grill?
SCEVIOUR: I love to cook. That's been one thing that I've been able to do more of, depending on what we can find at times. Even during the season, I usually do. But, like anything else [right now], it's fun for a minute, but then it's like "Can we get back to some normalcy a bit?" [laughs].
OLIVE: In between all those homecooked meals, are you also fitting in some takeout?
SCEVIOUR: There's a couple local places that we've been trying to order some food from every once and awhile just to support them. With everything that's going on right now, it likely affects the smaller businesses more than the bigger ones, so there's some local spots we order from.
OLIVE: Since we're already a few weeks into this quarantine, is there anything in particular that you've accomplished that you probably never would have if you didn't have this much time at home?
SCEVIOUR:Not that I can think of. There's still some stuff in one of the closets that we need to organize, some old baby clothes and stuff like that. We probably piled up too much of it, so we need to actually go through and decide on what we're keeping and whatnot. I still haven't gotten to that desperation point yet to do that, but I'm sure that's on the list here in the next week or two.
