SSH Meetings | Wrap Up

Update from Stew MacDonald, Executive Vice President, Revenue

Each year, OEG gathers research from Oilers Season Seat Holders (and other customers) through a variety of avenues during the course of the season, to help improve the customer experience year after year . Methods include:
This research continually highlights that the most important elements to Oilers Season Seat Holders as a whole are current season on-ice performance, on-ice outlook for the future, event experience and ticket value.
This season's research has also indicated that the economy is playing a larger role than in the past when it comes to decisions on discretionary spending.
All this information is taken into consideration as we plan the Season Seat package for the 2019-20 season. Renewals for 2019-20 are expected to begin mid-April.
We want to thank our Season Seat Holders for providing their honest feedback.

Update from Bob Nicholson, CEO & Vice Chair

The results this season have been disappointing and unacceptable, and we own that. But, we are not giving up and are focused on a plan that will move the Oilers forward.
The Edmonton Oilers General Manager search has begun. We're doing our due diligence and will not rush the process. Interviews will begin in the next week to ten days. We would love to have a General Manager in place before the draft and free agency, but the most important thing is to get the right person for the job.

MARK2089

We are looking for someone with a clear vision of where the team is today and where he wants to take them moving forward. Key criteria for the new General Manager will focus on how analytics are incorporated into player assessment and strategy, the overall structure, collaboration and decision-making process for the hockey operations team, scouting and player development, and salary cap management.
The development of drafted players will be a key organizational focus. We will concentrate on giving prospects the best roadmap for development utilizing our AHL franchise, the Bakersfield Condors. We will only call up prospects when they are ready and will give them time to development confidence and experience in the AHL. We have many strong prospects in our system and that is a testament to our amateur scouting and drafting. What used to be a weakness of the organization has turned into a strength and we believe we have numerous prospects - at defence, forward and goaltending - that have an opportunity to play in the NHL. In today's NHL, you must build your team from the core out and enhance with drafted players under contract.
We believe we have core players that give us an opportunity to be a playoff-competitive team. We must do a better job surrounding them with players who can contribute.
The salary cap is also something that we will have to watch and manage carefully. We have a strategy in place to work with our projections on the 2019-20 salary cap and give us the opportunity to sign or trade for players who will improve the team.
Thank you to Oilers fans for your passion. We have the best, most knowledgeable fans in the NHL and it is our responsibility to build a team that can compete for the Stanley Cup - year in, year out. Nothing less is acceptable.
