The Oilers have acquired forward David Desharnais from the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for defenceman Brandon Davidson.

He has played 435 NHL games in his career, scoring 79 goals and adding 171 assists. He also has 38 games of playoff experience, with three goals and 10 assists.
Desharnais, 30, has four goals and six assists in 31 games this season and is 47.8% on draws.
"I think he's a competitive player, I know he's undersized but he's strong on the puck," Oilers General Manager Peter Chiarelli told Sportsnet's Gene Principe. "He's had a bit of a tough year this year but part of what makes these trades is you look to what motivates these players and we feel David is very motivated. I talked to him, he's very motivated."
Desharnais is a 5-foot-7, 171-pound native of Laurier-Station, Quebec.
