EDMONTON, AB - After a deafening start to their 2019-20 NHL season on Wednesday, it was a muted morning for the Oilers at today's optional skate.
The excitement from last night's Home Opener was dampened by the emerging news of defenceman Adam Larsson expecting to miss the next six-to-eight weeks with a fractured right fibula and being placed on Long Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) after taking a shot to the foot in the first period of their 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Vancouver Canucks.
The injury is a big blow for the Oilers defensive corps, with the 26-year-old Swede coming off a formative summer and a strong IIHF World Championship campaign with the goal of rectifying what he admitted was a down season in '18-19.
