Trending up: Center Jonathan Toews has exploded out of the gate for the Chicago Blackhawks, scoring six points (five goals, one assist) on 13 shots on goal in three games on a line with mostly wings Alex DeBrincat and Dominik Kahun (C/LW). ... The highest scoring duos (four team goals with each player having a point entering Tuesday) are Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand (BOS), Patrick Kane and Nick Schmaltz (CHI), Mathew Barzal and Josh Bailey (NYI) and Auston Matthews and Patrick Marleau (TOR). ... Rookie Elias Pettersson is one of the biggest risers in the forward rankings, scoring five points (three goals, two assists) in his first two NHL games on the second line with Nikolay Goldobin (LW/RW in Yahoo). … Conor Sheary (LW/RW in Yahoo) has cut into Jeff Skinner's time on the top line and first power play, scoring three points (two on power play) since joining Eichel in those spots two games ago.
Injury notes: James van Riemsdyk will miss 5-6 weeks because of a lower-body injury, prompting Jakub Voracek to be stacked on the top line with left wing Claude Giroux and center Sean Couturier. Wing Oskar Lindblom remains on the second line with Nolan Patrick but is also now with Travis Konecny. ... In addition to forwards Corey Perry (knee), Ryan Kesler (hip) and Patrick Eaves (shoulder), center Ryan Getzlaf (lower body; day to day) and right wing Ondrej Kase (concussion) are sidelined. Rookies Troy Terry, Max Comtois and Sam Steel are in the top-six forward group, and Jakob Silfverberg (potential 2019 unrestricted free agent) is Anaheim's leading scorer (five points in three games). Adam Henrique is centering the top line with Rickard Rakell and Troy Terry and is worth monitoring in deeper leagues.
New additions to top 100: Bailey, who lost trusted linemate John Tavares in free agency this offseason, hasn't missed a beat as a fixture with Barzal at even strength and on the first power-play unit. Bailey has four points (one goal, three assists) in three games with at least one power-play point in each. ... Wing Timo Meier (LW/RW in Yahoo) has been a staple on the top line with forward Joe Pavelski, even with Joe Thornton (knee infection) missing time. ... Jordan Staal is among Yahoo's top 10 standard-category rankings one week into the season playing on the second line with wings Warren Foegele (rookie) and Justin Williams. Staal already has double-digit shots on goal and hit totals. ... Matthews leads the NHL in scoring entering Tuesday games playing on a line with Marleau, who joins the top 100 forwards this week, and right wing Kasperi Kapanen, who had two assists Sunday after being elevated.
