Status report
Kotkaniemi is out indefinitely after the forward was injured on a check by Washington Capitals center Lars Eller late in the third period of a 6-1 win Monday. Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said he would know more about the extent of the injury Wednesday. Lorentz will replace Kotkaniemi in the lineup. ... McDonagh, a defenseman who has missed two games, is expected to be out at least the next four games.
