In 2015, the Mississauga, Ontario native helped Canada win the gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship. He scored three goals in seven games, including one in Canada's 5-4 victory against Russia in the final.
Paul then signed with Ottawa and was assigned to Binghamton of the American Hockey League to start the 2015-16 season. He scored 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) before getting called up to the Senators. He made his NHL debut against the Buffalo Sabres on Feb. 16, 2016 and scored his first NHL goal Feb. 23 at the Edmonton Oilers. He spent most of the next three seasons with Belleville in the AHL, playing a total of 32 games with the Senators. He was again sent to Belleville to start the 2019-20 season, but Paul was recalled by the Senators just three games into the AHL season.
