Sergei Bobrovsky will make his season debut for the Columbus Blue Jackets against the Carolina Hurricanes at Nationwide Arena on Friday. Backup Joonas Korpisalo made 18 saves in a 3-2 overtime win at the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. Coach John Tortorella said earlier this week that both goaltenders would play because of the back-to-back and he wanted to give Bobrovsky a chance to play the home opener.
Bobrovsky, a two-time the Vezina Trophy winner, was 37-22-6 with a 2.42 goals-against average, a .921 save percentage and five shutouts last season.
Rod Brind'Amour will try again for his first NHL coaching victory after the Hurricanes lost 2-1 in overtime to the New York Islanders on Thursday in his debut. Brind'Amour, who played 10 of his 20 NHL seasons with Carolina, was a Hurricanes assistant for the past seven seasons.
