The Carolina Hurricanes saw something in Di Giuseppe during his freshman year at the University of Michigan, and shortly after the season he was selected in the second round (No. 38) in the 2012 NHL Draft.
A willing shooter, Di Giuseppe scored 78 points (33 goals, 45 assists) in 115 games at Michigan. The forward skipped his senior year, opting to sign a three-year, entry-level contract with the Hurricanes on March 26, 2014.

He spent the 2014-15 season with Charlotte of the American Hockey League and ranked eighth in goals (11), third in assists (19) and tied for fourth in points (30).
Di Giuseppe began the 2015-16 season with Charlotte but was brought to the NHL to fill a checking-line role with the Hurricanes. He made his NHL debut Dec. 5, 2015 against the Montreal Canadiens and scored his first NHL goal three days later against the Dallas Stars. He soon earned a place on a scoring line alongside Victor Rask and Jeff Skinner and produced seven goals, 10 assists and an even plus-minus rating before an injury ended his season in March.
He signed with the New York Rangers as a free agent on July 18, 2019.
