The Ducks will be without forward Rickard Rakell, who led the team with 34 goals last season. He injured his ankle in the third period of 4-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.
The Hurricanes will be without center Jordan Staal, who sustained a concussion in a 5-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday. Carolina has scored two goals in their past three games (0-2-1).

Status report

McElhinney left practice early on Thursday. Nedeljkovic and Maenalanen were recalled from Charlotte of the American Hockey League on Friday. … Sprong, who was acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday, will replace Rakell on the top line. ... Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said there is no timetable for Rakell's return.
