A first-round selection (No. 6) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2012 NHL Draft, Lindholm made his NHL debut at age 19 on Oct. 6, 2013, a 3-2 Ducks victory against the Winnipeg Jets, the first of six straight wins with Lindholm in the lineup. On Oct. 13, 2013, he had two assists for his first two NHL points in a 4-1 win against the Ottawa Senators. On Jan. 11, 2014, he scored two goals in a 5-3 win against the Phoenix Coyotes and became the second-youngest player (19 years, 356 days) in Ducks history to score twice in one game.

Lindholm finished the season fourth among defensemen at plus-29, fifth best for a rookie at the position in 25 years, was second among rookie defensemen with 30 points and became the first Ducks player at the position to be named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. Lindholm played in 11 of Anaheim's 13 games in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs and got his first NHL postseason point with an assist in Game 3 of the Western Conference Second Round against the Los Angeles Kings.
In 2014-15, he was tied for second among NHL defensemen at plus-25. He led Anaheim defensemen with 29 takeaways and tied for first with 27 assists.
Lindholm scored his first playoff goal in Game 2 of the second round against the Calgary Flames on May 3, 2015. The goal gave him a four-game playoff point streak, the longest by a Ducks defenseman since Chris Pronger (five) in 2009.
Lindholm finished the 2015 playoffs tied for sixth in scoring among defensemen with 10 points in 16 games and helped Anaheim advance to the Western Conference Final. In 2015-16, he reached double figures in goals for the first time with 10, tops among Ducks defensemen.
