Smith, 3-2-0 with a 2.71 goals-against average and .929 save percentage, gave up five goals on 22 shots and was replaced by Eddie Lack with 12:02 left to play in a 6-0 loss against the Ottawa Senators on Friday.

Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler will miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained MCL, sustained in the first period of a 4-2 loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.

Players to watch

Forward Jaromir Jagr has no points in two games with the Flames after signing a one-year, $1 million contract with Calgary on Oct. 2, but the 45-year-old told coach Glen Gulutzan he is better in the second half of back-to-backs and Gulutzan said Jagr, who had four shots Friday, created the most offense against Ottawa.
Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev has scored in consecutive games for the first time in his career, and his two goals already matches his total in 53 games last season.

Status report

Gulutzan said Freddie Hamilton will enter the Flames lineup, but would not say which forward was coming out. "We have a couple guys nicked up so we'll have some game-time decisions," Gulutzan said. … Virtanen will be a healthy scratch for the first time this season, replaced by Burmistrov, who was scratched Thursday.
