In a game where skating prowess is more important than ever, Brodie's speed has allowed him to develop into one of the NHL's most dynamic defensemen.
Born in Chatham, Ontario, Brodie was selected by the Flames in the fourth round (No. 114) of the 2008 NHL Draft. During Brodie's first training camp, then-Calgary coach Brent Sutter proclaimed the 6-foot-1, 182-pound speedster to be unlike anyone else in the Flames organization.

The only question was how long it would take for him to make it to the NHL.
Brodie spent parts of four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League before turning pro and joining Abbotsford of the American Hockey League for the 2010-11 season, when he had five goals and 34 points.
His NHL breakthrough came in 2011-12, when he played 54 games with Calgary, finishing with two goals and 14 points. As Brodie improved and his production grew, his role expanded and he was paired on the No. 1 power-play unit alongside Mark Giordano.
Brodie has proven to be durable, too. He played 81 games in both 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
