The older brother of Calgary Flames defenseman Dougie Hamilton has had productive seasons in junior hockey and the minor leagues but has bounced around with four NHL organizations, most recently the Arizona Coyotes, who claimed him on waivers from the Flames on Jan. 4, 2018.
The San Jose Sharks selected the Toronto native in the seventh round (No. 129) after he had 55 points (25 goals, 30 assists) in his second season with Niagara of the Ontario Hockey League. He had 83 and 85 points in his final two seasons with Niagara before turning pro and being assigned to Worcester of the American Hockey League for the 2012-13 season.

Hamilton had 13 and 22 goals in two seasons with Worcester, earning an 11-game callup from the Sharks during the 2013-14 season. But he didn't have a point in those 11 games and started 2014-15 back in Worcester, earning only one game with the Sharks before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche on March 2, 2015. He scored his first NHL goal on March 19 in Colorado's 5-2 win against the Coyotes.
Hamilton was traded to Calgary on Oct. 4, 2015, and joined his brother for four games with the Flames. He spent all of 2016-17 with Calgary, scoring two goals in 26 games, and had one assist in eight games in 2017-18 before being claimed by Arizona.
