BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF NORTH CAROLINA TOOLS TO VICTORY
8:05 p.m.
TV's Mike Maniscalco sets the table for tonight's road trip opener with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina three Tools to Victory.
1. Be Aggressive, Not Egregious
Feisty is a good thing. The Hurricanes played a physical game on Saturday and it not only engaged the fans but the team as well. Playing with a chip that initiates contact rather than reacting to it suits this Canes team.
2. Communicate on the Ice
Head coach Bill Peters wants his team communicating on the ice and the bench during the game. Against a Vancouver team that the Canes see twice a year, that type of talking is necessary.
3. Defense Keeps Contributing Offense
Noah Hanifin has had a great month-plus, but more contributions from the blue line are needed on this road trip.

IN THE ROOM: BILL PETERS
3:25 p.m.
Head coach Bill Peters met with the media in Vancouver following his team's morning skate at Rogers Arena. Here are some highlights from what he had to say, and the full video is available below.
On the importance of starting this road trip on a positive note: "It's real important. Get some good traction out here on the road. ... We've got to get off to a good start, and it starts here tonight against a team that's playing real well."
On when the team is at its best: "When we're moving our feet and are physically engaged, then we get emotionally engaged and all of a sudden it ends up being a good hockey game. That emotional engagement, the sooner you can get yourself attached to the game, the better off you are."
On quantity and quality of shots: "Early in the year we had a lot of shots with not enough traffic. Now we've done a better job getting the traffic. It starts with faceoffs. We've been a pretty good faceoff team. We want the puck there, and when we do get the puck, we want to be able to hold onto it. Getting pucks and bodies to the net is important, but also at the right time."
On the recent success of the power play: "I think it all gets attributed to the entries. We struggled gaining the zone early in the year and therefore had no zone time, no attack time and no results. Now we've been able to either win the draw and stay in the zone or be able to be efficient on the first entry, gain the zone under control and spend some time in there."
On Teuvo Teravainen: "He's a skilled guy. He's real creative and has good vision. He's good on the power play. ... Just a guy who adds a high level of skill to our group."

CANES BEGIN ROAD TRIP IN VANCOUVER
12:00 a.m.
The Carolina Hurricanes begin a season-long six-game road trip in Vancouver when they face off with the Canucks on Tuesday.
The Hurricanes will be looking to snap a nine-game winless streak at Rogers Arena (0-6-3), where they last won in October of 1999.
The Canes are looking to build off a dramatic 3-2 overtime win against the Florida Panthers at home on Saturday night. Jeff Skinner gave his team a lead in the third period, and Noah Hanifin tallied the game-winner in overtime with just two seconds left.
"We've got to start stringing some wins together, and there's no better time to do that than right now," head coach Bill Peters said after a Monday practice at Rogers Arena. "We love coming out on the road and being together as a group. It's a good opportunity to come out here and play good teams in the Pacific Division to start and see where we're at."
The win over the Panthers was emotional in that it was a physical, feisty affair in which the Hurricanes answered the bell. Both Hanifin and Brock McGinn recorded their first career NHL fights, the first two fighting majors of the season for the team.
"Guys were dialed in and passionate. They knew the importance of getting the two points," Peters said. "I thought the guys did a good job playing hard for each other, and that was good to see."
The Canucks come into tonight's game winners of two in a row against Nashville and Toronto. At 13-10-4 with 30 points in 27 games, the Canucks sit in one of the two wild card spots in the Western Conference.
"You've got to do your homework now," Peters said. "We've got good video of how they play. We feel comfortable with what we're going to present to our guys tomorrow in our meetings. We'll put our best foot forward."
CANESPR NOTES: The Canes scored two power-play goals on Saturday against Florida, totaling six power-play goals in their last seven games. The Canes are 7-3-1 this season in games when they score on the man advantage. … The Hurricanes are 9-2-1 this season when scoring first and 5-1-1 when leading after the first period.
