BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF NORTH CAROLINA TOOLS TO VICTORY
7:00 p.m.
TV's Mike Maniscalco details tonight's Blue Cross and Blue Shield three Tools to Victory.
1. Complete Effort
The Hurricanes have had two very good first periods on this road trip, but they haven't been able to carry that through the game. Against a Los Angeles team that has won seven in a row, Carolina can't afford a sub-60-minute effort.
2. Special Teams
Both the power play and penalty killing units should have a chip on their collective shoulders after the Sharks game. The Hurricanes special teams have to be a plus tonight.
3. Don't Get Stuck in Neutral
The Hurricanes can't be caught flat-footed in the neutral zone against the Kings forwards. Being active in passing lanes and forcing LA to chip and chase the puck will pay off for the Canes defenders.
IN THE ROOM: BILL PETERS & DEREK RYAN
5:00 p.m.
The Hurricanes didn't hold a morning skate today, but we caught up with head coach Bill Peters and forward Derek Ryan, who played in his 100th career NHL game on Thursday, after practice in Los Angeles on Friday.

CANES FACE OFF WITH WESTERN CONFERENCE'S TOP TEAM
12:00 a.m.
The Carolina Hurricanes will be looking for their first win of this six-game road trip when they visit the Los Angeles Kings for a Saturday night match-up.
The Hurricanes were in a good position to snag that win in San Jose on Thursday night, leading 3-0 in the first period, 4-1 in the second period and 4-2 at the beginning of the third period. But, the Sharks clawed their way back into the game, and Brent Burns scored the game-winner on the first shift in 3-on-3 overtime.
Strong play at even strength in the first period allowed the Hurricanes to jump out to a three-goal lead, punctuated by Sebastian Aho's pair of goals.
"We played well. We played well 5-on-5. I thought we managed the puck well early," head coach Bill Peters said after practice on Friday. "We checked well, we were above people, we made it hard to get through the neutral zone. I liked a lot of the things we did 5-on-5."
The Canes' season-long, six-game road trip continues through California with a Saturday night tilt against the Kings, who are riding a seven-game winning streak. Los Angeles defeated Minnesota on Tuesday and Ottawa in overtime on Thursday this week at Staples Center.
"It's a hard game in there all the time. It's hard-fought and low scoring," Peters said. "I think you've got to be smart enough to know that chances are going to be hard to come by. You're going to have to physically pay a price in order to generate scoring chances."
The Hurricanes have secured one of a possible four points to begin this road trip. Saturday's game is a chance for them to capture the first win of this roadie, but it will have to come against the Western Conference's top team.
"I want to see all four lines contribute in a positive manner for 60 minutes and the specialty teams get cleaned up," Peters said.
CANESPR NOTES: The Hurricanes win last season on Dec. 8, 2016, was the first time the team has won at Staples Center since Dec. 8, 2005, erasing a five-game losing streak. … Justin Williams recorded 266 points (103g, 163a) in 427 games with the Kings. He was a member of the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup Championship teams and won the 2013-14 Conn Smythe Trophy after tallying 25 points (9g, 16a) in 26 playoff games.
