6.6.23 Andersen Free Agency

RALEIGH, NC. -Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Frederik Andersen to a two-year, $6.8 million contract extension. The deal will pay Andersen an average-annual value (AAV) of $3.4 million per season through 2024-25.

"Frederik was incredibly solid for us in the playoffs, and he has been a calming presence in our crease for the last two seasons," said Waddell. "He has been one of the league's top goaltenders over the last decade, and we're happy to keep him in Carolina for two more years."

Andersen, 33, posted a 21-11-1 record, 2.48 goals-against average and .903 save percentage in 33 regular-season games with Carolina in 2022-23. He also earned a 5-3 record, 1.83 goals-against average and .927 save percentage in nine playoff appearances, ranking first in goals-against average and second in save percentage among all NHL goaltenders with at least two playoff decisions. The 6'4", 229-pound netminder signed with the Hurricanes as a free agent on July 28, 2021, and he has registered a 56-25-4 record, 2.29 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and five shutouts in 86 games over two seasons with Carolina. Andersen became the third Hurricanes goaltender to play in the NHL All-Star Game in 2022, and he and Antti Raanta became the first tandem in franchise history to win the William M. Jennings Trophy that same season, as Carolina allowed a league-low 202 goals against. He is one of just eight netminders in league history to win the award with multiple franchises, as he also won the award alongside John Gibson with Anaheim in 2015-16. Andersen has played 479 career NHL games with Anaheim, Toronto and Carolina, posting a 282-125-52 record, 2.58 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and 24 shutouts. Originally selected by Carolina in the seventh round, 187th overall, of the 2010 NHL Draft, he re-entered the draft in 2012 and was picked by Anaheim in the third round, 87th overall. The Herning, Denmark, native has represented his home country at numerous international tournaments, including the IIHF World Championships in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2018.
