RALEIGH, NC - Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has hired Matt Turney as Chief Strategy Officer, promoted Shaun Nicholson to Chief Financial Officer and promoted Justin Marcarelli to Controller.

As chief strategy officer, Turney will focus on the execution of strategic initiatives and operational improvements. In conjunction with his role with the Hurricanes, he serves as CFO of Dundon Capital Partners. Prior to joining the organization, he was a Senior Associate at Citi within the Mergers and Acquisitions Team. A Dallas native, Turney graduated from Southern Methodist University in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in finance with a specialization in alternative asset management. Turney resides in Dallas.
As CFO, Nicholson will oversee the accounting, finance and payroll functions for the Hurricanes and PNC Arena. He will also serve as Treasurer for the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation. Nicholson joined the organization in 2013 and previously served as Accounting Manager, Director of Finance and Controller. He began his career in audit and advisory services with KPMG in Washington, D.C. After relocating to Raleigh, Nicholson held financial management roles with a Raleigh-based equipment financing company and, subsequently, a Chapel Hill-based alternative investment advisor. The Woodstock, Va., native earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from James Madison University in 2005 and is a certified public accountant. Nicholson resides in Raleigh with his wife, Amanda, and their two sons, Cameron (8) and Patrick (6).
As Controller, Marcarelli will manage the day-to-day accounting functions for the Hurricanes and PNC Arena. He started with the organization in October 2018 as an arena accountant, handling accounting for all arena-related revenues and expenses as well as serving as the primary finance contact for arena show event settlements. Before joining the Hurricanes, Marcarelli worked as an accountant for D.C. United of Major League Soccer, where he handled day-to-day accounting and project accounting related to the construction of Audi Field. The Salisbury, Md., native earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from North Carolina State University in 2015 and received his master's degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut in 2016. He is a licensed certified public accountant in North Carolina. Marcarelli resides in Garner.
