While this isn't the Blackhawks' first trip to Mullet Arena this season, players still describe the combined NHL and college hockey arena as a unique experience. For Boris Katchouk, fans can still bring a fun environment but still something a place they have to adjust to.
"It's definitely different," Katchouk said. "It's kind of weird because you think you're at like a junior [league] rink, but you're playing an NHL game. So, it's definitely a cool atmosphere, but it's definitely different."
Going into the games tonight, the Coyotes have won a majority of their contests at their home arena with a 19-11-3 record. Despite Chicago losing 4-1 on their last meeting, Joey Anderson noted that the team needs to come out strong against them to build their momentum.
"It's a different vibe in the arena and I think [the Coyotes have] done a good job embracing it," Anderson said. "Obviously, they play it plays into their hand. I think we got to try our best to have a good response because they're pushing at home."
After winning against the Predators and Bruins in their last two games, the Blackhawks are hoping to change their luck around to finish out the season against the Coyotes. For head coach Luke Richardson, if the team can continue to improve on their zone coverages and tracking of the puck, it can lead to more offensive chances to strive towards a win.
"We're tracking so hard, it doesn't let the other team make fancy plays from the neutral zone or slow down," Richardson said. "So, I think just more that we're just trying to emphasize the things we're doing good and then still improve on a few things every day."
