      Panthers Uncaged: Episode 6

      WHAT WE LEARNED

1.The NHL has done a fantastic job creating a "home away from home" for teams playing in the 2020 postseason.

Bubble life is the good life! After the Florida Panthers wrapped up training camp, the team headed for Toronto to play in the Qualifying Round. Upon arrival at the Fairmont Royal York, the Cats - as well as the other teams staying in the hotel - were greeted with top-notch hospitality.

"Ever since we've been in [the bubble], everything has been very well done. It's pretty first-class," said defenseman Josh Brown. "Our room keys were there waiting for us. There's a concierge for us if we do need things outside the hotel that they don't have, whether it be a run to the drug store or grocery store - anything extra that we need. They've been great."

Within walking distance to Scotiabank Arena, the hotel offers great amenities for the players and staff to enjoy while spending their time in Toronto. Each team gets its own floor, complete with a player's lounge and other places to hang out. They even have fun recreation rooms where guys can play games and practice swings on the player-favorite golf simulator.

2.Equipment operations run a little bit differently in the bubble.

To no one's surprise, the equipment staff for an NHL team is very busy - especially in the postseason. In the season finale of "Panthers Uncaged," we get an inside look at how head equipment manager Teddy Richards and his staff prepare the team for practices and games in the bubble.

"I give the [Scotiabank] Arena a lot of credit. Our game arena set up is really good," Richards said.

"There's four locker rooms," he explained. "The Toronto Maple Leafs have been very generous. They gave up their locker room."

You may be asking yourself, why are there four hockey locker rooms at Scotiabank Arena?

"The home Toronto Maple Leafs locker room is one of the rooms you can get. The NHL visitor room that we're all accustomed to is another room that you may get," Richards went on. "[Then] what they did was they made a 'makeshift' locker room out of the Toronto Raptors locker room. They did a fantastic job."

      Where's room number four?

"Actually, the media room where you would sit down with your computer and do all your game notes - they converted that into the fourth locker room," Richards described. "They did a great job. They built stalls and really created a locker room and a nice feeling for our players."

With the rooms set, the Eastern Conference teams playing in the bubble take turns using the spaces and share certain storage areas. The teams spread their time between Scotiabank Arena where the games are played and Ford Performance Centre where the practices are held.

This of course means that equipment needs to be readily available at both locations.

"What we started doing is [using an] equipment transportation truck. So we started housing more and more [equipment] that we may need on a day to day basis."

Teddy has a good rule of thumb when it comes to managing the Cats equipment requirements.

"Where you are tomorrow, I'm setting up the night before," he said.

3.The hunt for the new General Manager is on.

Now that the season has concluded, the Florida Panthers have all eyes on what's next. After 10 years with the Florida Panthers, Dale Tallon will not be returning as the General Manager for the team next year.

Panthers President and CEO Matt Caldwell is captaining the extensive search, and he intends on pulling out all the stops to find the next GM.

"It's been exciting," Caldwell noted. "These decisions are never taken lightly…but to see the amount of interest in the job has been truly exhilarating and gratifying."

There's a lot of expected modifications with Tallon's successor, ranging from impacts on team play to overall organizational culture. For those of you wondering, the organization is leaving nothing off the table when it comes to hiring the right GM.

"We're interviewing folks anywhere from really experienced people who have done it before to up and coming rockstar Assistant GM types," Caldwell said. "We're excited about the crop of people we're talking to and can't wait to get going."

While there's going to be a lot of changes, Caldwell makes the mission of the team clear.

"Winning is everything," he emphasized. "We do a lot of things in the community, I think we do great things for our employees, we put on great shows [and] concerts, [there's] excitement at the games - those are all ancillary to winning and trying to bring the Stanley Cup to South Florida."

"Nothing can be more paramount than winning, finding the right leader to get us there, and taking this next big step," Caldwell punctuated.
