Rats Roundup: Luongo's New Role, Hockey Holiday Ice Rink

Welcome Back Lu

On Wednesday, the Panthers announced that Roberto Luongo was named as the club's Special Advisor to the General Manager.
The legendary goaltender joined the hockey operations department for the team following an illustrious career that spanned 19 NHL seasons, 11 of which were with Florida.
Not a stranger to accolades, Luongo ended his NHL playing career ranking second in NHL history in games played by a goaltender (1,044), third in wins (489) and ninth in shutouts (77). He is of only three goaltenders in NHL history to have played 1,000 NHL games.
"Lu" was also a three-time finalist for the Vezina Trophy (2003-04, 2006-07, 2010-11), a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy (2006-07) and was a finalist for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy (2017-18).
On March 7, 2020, the Panthers will retire Luongo's jersey no. 1 prior to their game against the Montreal Canadiens. Get your tickets for what is sure to be a special night HERE.

Lace Up Your Skates

Back for another holiday season, the Panthers and Hoffman's Chocolates are proud to present an outdoor Hockey Holiday ice rink in Greenacres at Hoffman's Chocolate factory opening on Nov. 16.
The rink itself, a 2,400 square foot sheet of ice, will be located alongside Hoffman's Chocolates 29th Annual Winter Wonderland holiday display.
The rink will be open to fans Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. But there are days where the rink will be closed: The rink will be closed on all Tuesdays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
General admission tickets are $15 including skate rentals, group admission (10+ skaters) is $13, military and first responders are $10 (Valid ID required). A portion of the proceeds of each ticket sold will go back to the Florida Panthers Foundation.

Hockey Fights Cancer

The Panthers, along with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, will host their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night on Saturday, Nov. 16 when the New York Rangers come to Sunrise.
During the game, Panthers coaches and broadcasters will wear tokens to raise awareness for Hockey Fights Cancer. Fans are encouraged to fill out cards inside BB&T Center that night. Cards will be located at the Foundation table outside of Club Lexus for fans to fill out. The first 10,000 fans at BB&T Center will receive a rally towel courtesy of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

from now until Nov. 19. Select jerseys will be available for auction/raffle outside of Club Lexus at BB&T Center during Saturday's game. Hockey Fights Cancer pins will also be available in Pantherland and at the Foundation table outside of Club Lexus for $10 with all proceeds benefitting the Florida Panthers Foundation.

Panther Conservation

The Cats announced that Panther Conversation Night will return to BB&T Center on Nov. 19 when the Philadelphia Flyers are in town.
The night is meant to stir conversation and education in regard to the cause of protecting the Florida panther. One of the pillars of the organization, conservation of the Florida panther is a key focus of the organization.
In addition to unveiling a new Florida panther habitat mural wall last season, fans can enjoy an exclusive AR experience on their mobile device at the game. Click HERE to read more on the partnership with the Museum of Discovery and Science.
