Fall 2017 sessions will focus on committed athletes currently playing in Peewee (2005 and 2006 birthdates) and Bantam (2003 and 2004 birthdates).
One of the newest Oilers programs, Oilers Hockey Institute will be the leading brand in hockey training and development, intended to challenge participants both physically and mentally to help athletes reach their hockey goals, both on and off the ice.
Last season, Oilers Hockey Institute joined other existing hockey programming, Oilers Hockey School, Oilers Hockey Clinic and Lil' Oilers, and will continue to operate alongside these programs.
"The Oilers Hockey Institute is in a class of its own and offers athletes the opportunity to take the next jump in their training and advancement with unparalleled access to NHL coaching, facilities and training staff," said Oilers Entertainment Group CEO and Vice Chair Bob Nicholson. "Oilers Hockey Institute is an extension of our commitment to growing our game and supporting youth and amateur hockey development in Oil Country."
Oilers Hockey Institute will once again operate out of the Downtown Community Arena, adjacent to Rogers Place, and participants will have exclusive access to the Edmonton Oilers Video Room and gym facilities located in the Oilers Dressing Room.
On-ice instruction will be led by a combination of elite level coaches, local National Hockey League (NHL) alumni, including many Oilers Alumni, and former Canadian Hockey League (CHL) & CIS hockey players. Off-ice instruction will include support from Edmonton Oilers Coaching and Player Development staff and the Oilers Strength and Conditioning team. Oilers Alumni instructors include Fernando Pisani (Oilers forward, 2002 to 2010), Jeff Deslauriers (Oilers goaltender, 2008 to 2010), Shawn Belle (Oilers defenceman, 2010), Mark Fistric (Oilers defenceman, 2013) and Colin Fraser (Oilers forward, 2010 to 2011).
"Following a successful first year, Oilers Hockey Institute will continue to elevate athletes to the next level both physically and mentally," said Oilers Senior Director of Player Development Rick Carriere. "Our instructors are NHL, CHL and CIS-trained, and combined with our programming, participants will grow and learn exponentially in order to achieve their goals both on and off the ice."
Oilers Hockey Institute will feature a complete and connected series of off-ice training led by Body by Bennett as it relates to hockey excellence, including video instruction, nutrition, dry-land exercise, weight training and cardio.
For Fall 2017, Oilers Hockey Institute will run once a week on Thursday nights for a duration of five weeks, starting October 12. Registration is open and will be executed on a first-come, first-served basis. Stay tuned for more information on the Winter 2018 sessions.
