(Edmonton, AB) -The Edmonton Oilers announced details regarding their newest program, Oilers Hockey Institute (OHI) which continues the Oilers long tradition of hockey excellence and development, expanding their involvement in youth and amateur hockey in Edmonton. Oilers Hockey Institute will be the leading brand in hockey training and development. Oilers Hockey Institute is intended to challenge an athlete both physically and mentally, helping them reach their hockey goals, both on and off the ice.

Oilers Hockey Institute joins other existing hockey programming, Oilers Hockey School (OHS), Oilers Hockey Clinic and Lil' Oilers.
"The Oilers are proud to launch the Oilers Hockey Institute focused on youth and amateur hockey development in Oil Country," said Oilers Entertainment Group CEO and Vice Chair Bob Nicholson. "Oilers Hockey Institute will be in a class of its own with unparalleled access to NHL facilities, coaching and training staff."
OHI will operate out of the Downtown Community Arena and participants will have exclusive access to the Edmonton Oilers Video Room and gym facilities. The first OHI sessions will focus on committed athletes currently playing in Peewee. As the brand grows, OHI will introduce new programs that include other skill levels and age groups. Both longer (10-12 weeks) and shorter (3-5 weeks) sessions will be available in the near future and sessions will be tailored to specific positions and will offer a more focused curriculum.
On-ice instruction will be led by a combination of elite level coaches, local National Hockey League (NHL) alumni, including many Oilers Alumni, and former Canadian Hockey League (CHL) & CIS hockey players. Off-ice instruction will include support from Edmonton Oilers Coaching and Player Development staff and the Oilers Strength and Conditioning team. Oilers Alumni instructors include Fernando Pisani (Oilers forward, 2002 to 2010), Jeff Deslauriers (Oilers goaltender, 2008 to 2010), Shawn Belle (Oilers defenceman, 2010), Mark Fistric (Oilers defenceman, 2013) and Colin Fraser (Oilers forward, 2010 to 2011).
"The world-class instructors and programming set to debut in Oilers Hockey Institute will take athletes to the next level," said Oilers Senior Director of Player Development Rick Carriere. "Oilers Hockey Institute participants will train, learn and improve both physically and mentally to help them reach their hockey goals."
OHI programs will feature a complete and connected series of off-ice training led by Body by Bennett and the Oilers Strength and Conditioning team, as it relates to hockey excellence, including video instruction, nutrition, concussion management, dry-land exercise, weight training, cardio and yoga. Adding further prestige to the program, when available, these elements will be executed inside the Oilers Dressing Room.
To start, Oilers Hockey Institute will run once a week on Wednesdays for nine weeks, starting April 5, 2017. Registration opens today, Monday, March 13, 2017, and will be executed on a first-come, first-served basis. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming sessions and dates.
