The Oilers look to close out their series vs. LA in Game 5

THIRD PERIOD

0.0: THE OILERS PULL THROUGH! SECOND ROUND HERE WE COME! Edmonton sees out their first-round series against the Kings with a 4-3 victory in Game 5 at Rogers Place, winning the series four games to one and bouncing Los Angeles from the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight year. Leon Draisaitl has two goals as the First Star, Evan Bouchard has two helpers for the Second Star, and so does McDavid - who gets the Third Star with two assists. Nugent-Hopkins also contributes two assists and Skinner gets the win with 19 stops.

Edmonton will play either Vancouver or Nashville in Round 2.

19.7: DRAISAITL IS HOOKED! The German gets away with the net empty and Danault has to take him down. Edmonton goes to the power play less than 20 seconds away from advancing to the Second Round!

2:18: Kempe's deflection finds its way through. There's still time for the Kings to mount a comeback. 4-3.

4:00: FOUR MINUTES TO GO! Skinner & the Oilers turn away a rugby-like scrum in front of their own net and clear the puck through McDavid. They're putting in the defensive work necessary right now to get this job done.

12:21: Edmonton has this game slowed down to the perfect pace as they prioritize dump-ins and possession while keeping the Kings' contained when in their own zone.

20:00: The third period is underway! The opportunity to close out this series is coming up in the third period with the Oilers leading 4-2 with 20 hard miles to go.

SECOND PERIOD

52.9: ANOTHER POWER PLAY EXPIRES, BUT IT'S DEFLECTED HOME BY HYMAN! Doughty comes out of the box, but Bouchard's point shot hits the post and dances on the goal line before being put away by the winger in the blue paint. 4-2 Oilers.

Hyman taps home a loose puck in the crease to make it 4-2

2:56: Drew Doughty hacks down on Holloway's stick on a great net-front chance for Edmonton and destroys his twig. That's two more minutes in the box and another Oilers' power play – their fourth of the night and they've cashed in one (two if you count the seconds after).

7:39: DRAISAITL DELIVERS BACK THE LEAD! The power play had just expired before Connor McDavid rounded the Kings' net and found the German open while coming down from the right face-off dot to fire away his second goal of the game. 3-2 Oilers.

McDavid curls around the net & sets up Draisaitl for another

9:43: Karma strikes Pierre-Luc Dubois and the Kings as he throws his arm around Draisaitl and takes him down, drawing two minutes for holding. Edmonton is 1-for-2 on the power play.

10:39: The referee sends both Kulak and Fiala to the box – one for hooking, one for embellishment. The Oilers defenceman is the more honourable one.

11:48: Kings power play. Corey Perry trips up Anderson behind the net and gets the worst of it, but drags himself off the ice and to the bench. LA goes to their first man advantage.

12:16: IT CROSSES THE LINE! NOT THIS TIME, DAVE! Rittich reaches out to take away an insane passing play from the Oilers' man advantage and deny Leon Draisaitl with the outstretched glove. but

McDavid & Draisaitl connect on a magical man-advantage marker

13:21: Gavrikov is called for hooking to set up Edmonton's second power play. They're 0-for-1 tonight after their earlier man advantage that began right before the end of the first period.

16:52: LA takes the lead. Darnell Nurse pinches to try and take it away from Viktor Arvidsson, but it opens up a lane behind him for Blake Lizotte to take a saucer pass and beat Skinner over the right pad on a two-on-one break. 2-1 Kings.

20:00: The second period is underway!

FIRST PERIOD

0.0: We're all tied up at 1-1 through 20 minutes thanks to that great bounce for Laferriere that was unkind to the Oilers before the intermission.

2.6: Trevor Moore takes a late penalty.

28.0: What a break for the Kings. A routine dump-in from Vladislav Gavrikov hits a stanchion and bounces right in front for Alex Laferriere to score despite Vincent Desharnais' great attempt to slide and break it up. 1-1.

9:43: BACK-HANDER EVANDER! IT SLIDES OVER THE LINE TO OPEN THE SCORING! Vincent Desharnais intercepts an attempted pass in the Oilers' zone and starts a breakout from his knees, leading to Kane and Kulak coming over the Kings' blueline together and working an exchange that was finished off by a low backhand from Kane, sneaking his second goal of the series inside the far post.

Kane redirects a pass from Kulak & beats Rittich to make it 1-0

10:00: Skinner looks off Lizotte's look from the slot off a broken zone entry.

12:35: Warren Foegele single-handedly works the puck free along the boards for a chance for Mattias Janmark in the slot, but the Swede sends it wide. Only one shot for the Oilers so far to LA's seven.

13:16: Adrian Kempe gloves it ahead to himself in the neutral zone before coming in and putting a high shot off Stuart Skinner's mask.

16:54: Mikey Anderson is down on the ice with an injury, but the play goes on and it leads to Zach Hyman hitting the post on a redirection off Mattias Ekholm's shot. It takes the defenceman some toime to get off the ice, but he's able to skate off. It looks like he & McDavid ran into each other without looking.

20:00: GAME ON! A chance to move on to the Second Round with a victory here at Rogers Place tonight, but the Kings aren't prepared to go quietly facing elimination for the third straight year to the Oilers.

20:00: Puck drop on Game 5 at Rogers Place is coming up at 8:20 p.m. MT.
